Description
EDIT: adjusted the file size.Small one, but I'll be in Ireland for almost two weeks soon and I doubt that I will sketch anything else until then, so I might as well upload this.
The girl's head in the upper right-ish corner is one of my OCs, all the rest is sloppy sketches that reflect on what I am writing my BA thesis: Arthurian legend. Specifically on Morgan and Merlin, but that doesn't keep me from sketching anyone else.
I put them into generic tunics because I'm too lazy to design some clothes.
And why does everyone believe that Morgan ought to be blackhaired? Why do I believe that? I am writing on her and have no idea where that myth comes from. But it suits her. Kinda.
First row: Arthur, Lancelot (I can't believe I put him there, he's so not-Welsh), Peredur/Percival
Second row: Bedwyr/Bedivere, Cei/Kay, Gwalchmai/Gawain (I have a weak spot for these three)
Third row: Morgan, Gwenhwyfar/Guinevere.
I should draw them properly some day…

Your Arthur is dead sexy, and your Gawain is quite the rogue. Actually they're basically all wonderful. Morgan just has a feeling of mystery about her...

I have to admit that my Arthurian characters are a mixture of all those pieces of literature I like, without ever deciding to follow one of them .
I’m far from having read it all anyway (is that actually possible?), what you’ll see in my sketches is lots of influence from the Mabinogion with bits of Geoffrey of Monmouth, Malory, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight and random "oh my that would be so cool" thoughts.
My Merlin and my Morgan kinda developed on their own since I started writing on them for my BA thesis and now they are a really weird mixture of all there is. Thus, Morgan is a mysterious, and enjoys plotting like other people cookies, but she’s not actually evil. And I like her connections to Avalon and the otherworld, even though the deplorable lack of mdieval translations of Welsh and Irish myths and legends didn’t allow me to stress that too much in my thesis.
And Gawain… is somewhere between the Mabinogion and The Once and Future King in my mind . So he got reddish blonde in my reference sheet and I adore his short temper and frivolity with girlish enthusiasm
.

Great work. I really love this - and not just because you share my weak spot for Bedwyr, Cei und Gwalchmai. Especially that you drew Bedwyr with the left hand missing is great. just the way it has to be.

I'm just trying to heed what's written in the Mabinogion .

Well, thinking that most people only know that Sir Bedivere returned Excalibur to the lake... if they recognize the name at all

There's a lot of names to remember, be kind. Even though I'd say Arthur's most faithful knights (or should we rather call them "retainers"?) should be the easiest ones…
