After the battle against the gods, being engaged the 5 Bronze Saint as God Saints of Athena, the remaining Silver Saints and the minor Bronze Saints Saints engaged as defenders of the Sanctuary, there was no candidate who was equal to the Gold Saints to cover the role of Pope.
Poseidon/Julian Solo, allied with Athena/Saori Kido during the Sacred War against Hades, proposed his Marine General Syren Sorrento as a candidate. Athena then gathered his Saints to a collective decision and all agreed in electing the former Marine General as the new Pope, successor of the previous.

In addition to cover the role of Pope, Sorrento was the first to have the appointment of Prime Saint, special role estabilished by Athena herself not only to relegated the Pope to a position of representation of men towards the Gods but also give him the role of the first defender against the forces of evil. For this purpose it was created a special armor called God Electrum Cloth, a special God Cloth made of an alloy of gold, silver and platinum and then washed by several drops of blood of the Goddess. The constellation associated with the cloth is the Southern Cross
The cloth replaced the traditional robes in use, but was equipped with a helmet similar to the previous Pope's clothes and with a traditional white coat decorated at the edges with the same designs that were present at the edges of the tunics; it wraps the entire body the Pope when he is at rest.
