Description
Kinda doodled around thinking about God of War costume contest... But I really wanted to give Kratos an armor... Sort of like the fusion of eastern and western (from the middle age) armor. It's also loosely based on the black knight armor I drew while back... [link]
I also put a contraption on the back that becomes sort of like a pseudo cape/wing... I don't think the result is as cool as I thought it was going to be...
But, it was still fun.

That's a terrific ass-kicking design right there, goodsir. Kinda see some influences of mongolian armor and viking styles.

don't exactly like the cape thing, but I think that the rest of the drawing looks amazing. It's incredible how anybody can draw this good

You should try printing it and see if it works.

Beautiful man. I think kratos should have had an armor from the get-go. I think warriors who dont wear armors are really wierd.
Unless it's a berserker. But otherwise it's just plain wierd. Even though Kratos is really cool
This is really cool armor.
The only thing i think you could've not done is the shoulder pads, even though they make it look more "powerfull" and have more presence,
Greeks never used shoulder plates.
But hey, who gives a crap !
It looks awesome!

That's an interesting point.
I don't mind Kratos being semi-nude .
Being such a wild character he is. and considering the range of movement he shows, it's probably odd to have such heavy protective gears on him.
Now with that said, I did want to see him in some sort of very majestic armor. I thought it would be a good contrast to his explosive nature.
He is not wearing a Greek armor. I even thought of a storyline where the armor comes from some ancient culture. And actually has more graceful tone to it. But, if the person who wears it uses it for evil purpose, it turns more evil looking... hence the teeth and the evil engravings and stuff... I guess I can even take the look even further.

I think it'd be great if he wore a gigantic saint-seiya-hades like armor when he was "crowned" god of war.
And you got a point about the movement.

Thanks!
Yeah, I tried to mix all different cultures of armors into this one. And yet, tried to maintain the possibility of maximum movement.
That's korean BTW... not mongolian

hey did you do like a paper doll thing with this? because the pieces on the body and the pieces off look exactly the same, plus kratos's face looks the same. just curious, have a good one.

torokun In reply to Jizames05 [2006-10-04 04:29:39 +0000 UTC]
I guess you could say that.
I first drew Kratos' body and drew the armor on a different layer.
After that, I cut up the armors and drew the pieces of it.

Well done fellow God of War fan...I see you keep yourself busy better than I..
This contest you spoke of..I assume it is already over..Is there any remnants of the entries on line perhaps?
(a link would do) I should like to see other fan works.

I don't think I can claim that I'm a true fan of GoW. I love the game play and I think it's totally fun. Even from the E3 version I tried years ago.
But, the fact that I dont' play much games these days really hinders me to try out these games for good hours...
On top of that, the over the top violence and the mature theme kinda kept me away from the game...
I shoudl give it a good try though... it really falls under what I think is a good platform action game. Simple and fun.

so, to make sure that the individual armour segments will be the right size/shape when overlayed, do you draw digitally? Or do you just eyeball the model and then approximate the size?

torokun In reply to wei-long [2006-10-03 21:06:25 +0000 UTC]
I totally eyeball everything. None of my stuff is accurate in proportion/perspective and relative sizes...
I'm such a faker!

wei-long In reply to torokun [2006-10-04 13:28:50 +0000 UTC]
Well that's so impressive. I mean, I'm assumming you drew the segments and the model separate and then overlayed the pieces on him in PS. So it's great how the sizing is right.
Or did you draw the fully armoured one separatly?

torokun In reply to wei-long [2006-10-04 18:51:30 +0000 UTC]
I drew Kratos and drew the full armor on a separte layer.
And I cut up those armors and made separate pieces.
