Quicky Design of PSP2.0I found out at the end of the day the Kotaku was running unofficial design challenge of next PSP.
Spent couple of hours on it... so it's pretty rough...
Also, I wish i had a 3D program. it would have looked better rendered...
*IMPORTANT NOTICE!!!
-I HAD NO IDEA THIS IMAGE WOULD DRAW OVER 15,000 PEOPLE IN ONE DAY... FOR THAT MATTER IT REALLY MADE THE CONTEST SUPER UNFAIR. I USUALLY GET COUPLE HUNDRED VIEWS PER DAY. SO I THOUGHT IT WOULDN'T UPSET THE VOTE THAT MUCH... BUT THIS LITTLE REQUEST OF MINE MUDDLED THE GOOD SPORT OF FAIR GAME OF CONTEST. I AM ASKING TO HAVE MY ENTRY TAKEN OFF SINCE I INADVERTENTLY BECAME A CHEATER. But you can enjoy the design here...
I DO SUPER APPRECIATE ALL YOUR COMMENT THOUGH. I will try to compile the thoughts behind this design soon. It will address a lot of comments you are making.

Don't worry. Sony is going to release the PS Vita which is the PSP 2 very soon. From what I heard it's as powerful as an X-box and comes with gamecards so it won't end up being a failure like the PSP Go.

This looks very cool, however I think if it were real I'd be afraid of breaking the two slide out peases. Also, I don't know what people have against the UMD discs as a game format. Maybe it's because I'm old school and like to have physical copies of my games.

i got to say this is really a good design.more screen real estate and with the slide out pad you could have options for flash card,usb and so on...i'm not really a gamer but looks really cool.

If this what the PSP2 would actually look like, I'd be sold just on this design.
Although, one of my biggest concerns would be keeping the sliding part locked once open. But, hey, looks awesome, regardless!

its design is very good but they say that Sony is creating a PSP2, which could improve the graphics on the Xbox is much thinner and with a bigger screen I think will serve UMD games

the idea is nice, but find that with the protecive cover is totally useless. think the psp needs of the future the following things:
1st Better resolution. (Joke miniHD = P)
2nd more built-in memory.
3rd Multi-touch display
4th Sony, s move motion controlling 
5th Mobile TV on 3G or not. DVBT network
6th A Faster and Complete Wireless Lan koplung internal to the psp memory, for faster data exchange
7th A better web browser (I tend to Maemo [link] )
Well, my wish would be the first and I still have more ideas in stock
should wait and who knows maybe sony does indeed time for the beginning of the better browser, and this provides an update to FW

good start! I like the touchscreen idea and the overall looks, but I have a few concerns with the design
if I had a say in the actual design process of the real psp2 I would dump the UMD and memorycard slot and would replace it by a single SDHC slot. Sony recently made the decision to replace all memorycards in their new mobile phones with a microSDHC slot, which more and more consumers come to appreciate.
my second/third point is the hinges/sliders for the control elements. they would have to be super sturdy to withstand all the things kids might do to it - which it does not look like, so my guess is would break a lot.
the last thing I was wondering, the storage area is kind of useless because I think if you want to take it somewhere, you'll probably use the slided-in mode of the console, so you won't be able to store stuff in the compartment - and having it slided-out you risk breaking the console.

Good concept and a great illustration.
I have one technical nitpick, you have a stylus in the picture and yet you mention the screen has a "multi touch sensor." You are probably not aware that those two are mutually exclusive. A stylus only works on a resistive (pressure sensitive) touch screen, and by nature they cannot have a multi-touch interface, at least not currently. An obvious example of a resistive screen is the Nintendo DS.
For multi-touch you need a capacitive screen. They do not sense any pressure, only touches by the human skin and therefore do not work with styli or any other inanimate objects. An example of a capacitive is an iPhone or iPod touch.

Why take it away since this is an amazing design. It's fair to win since your work is amazing. You work hard on your idea and it's a the best. It's not cheating.

I would have actually gone out and bought this right away, if Sony really did a PSP like this. But no, they just had to fuck it up and make that stupid ass PSPGo thing. Seriously, you are relying on the friggin' internet connection with that thing, all the time! And you can't enjoy hand-held gaming as good with your friends anymore either, as the connection frequencies are different, due' to the built-in receiver.
But heck, this looks like a great design. Of course there are things that I'd think about, like "Would the control unit break down, due to it's flip-out mechanism" or "How durable is the touch screen?" etc.
