Description

Phew ok I hope you don't mind that I'm using the official Flora species sheet layout, and I hope you will excuse my shitty handwriting.
My silly species contribution to

What is written in the sheet:

Hardbacks

Common Affinities: Water, Poison, Earth

Ability to plan/abstract: All are able

Native Language: Common; some sea dwelling hardbacks may use a sea language

Native to: No specific part of the sea

Size: Depends on environment

Diet: Seafood - favourites include shelled sea species

Environment

Hardbacks are traditionally an aquatic species, however these days the majority of them have migrated to land and have been able to adapt their bodies to the new environment. They are still very slow on land however.

Shells

At birth, hardbacks will begin to grow their shell. They can only grow one in their entire lives and can be any shape, size or colour.
When fully grown the shell can be removed (with force).
When without their shell, it is evident that any patterns their shell possessed will appear as a marking on their back.
Shells have many uses to many species (bowls, boats etc), making shell stealing a common crime against hardbacks.

However some hardbacks will voluntarily sell their shells, sometimes to wealthy hardbacks who keep multiple shells to wear.

Breeding

Hardbacks can breed with almost all reptilian species and some sea species.
The main if not only trait of hardbacks passed on to hybrid children is the hard shell growing from their back.

If anyone decides to make a hardback character I'd love to see it! I'll link them here :0

Here's the original concept artΒ

I can barely read your writing...why would a hardback need to sell his shell to another hardback, didn't the rich harcback grow his own shell? Also, what kind of economy do hardbacks have? Obviously they have money, do they have jobs?Β

1) Since shells are all different some like owning different ones or nicer ones to wear
2) They have an economy that is based on trading cool stuff for other cool stuff
3) They might have jobs to get food or something or they might be able to find their own food and shelter and not need jobs

They're super cute xD Your art style portrays them very nicely. I'd love to make a character... But I can't currently.
