Description Today we're going to the heart of the Seven Kingdoms - to the Iron Throne and Maegor's Holdfast, to the Great Sept of Baelor and the justice meted out there. Six square feet of tiny little buildings. This is King's Landing.

You said in another comment that this took (condensed) two weeks? Β Curious, but what kind of resolution were you originally working with? Β

I wish to be able to watch it bigger... Anyway, cool stuff!

Did you draw this out by hand, or was this a digital creation?

It's drawn using a tablet and photoshop. So all hand drawn, but digitally.

It is indeed. That one took quite a while.

How longdid it take you? That would take me..... maybe a few decades. Maybe.

In total? A little over two weeks, perhaps a little longer. And could easily suck up a couple more.

No chance I'm afraid I'm limited by contract in what I can post.

You can check out the blog (linked above) for some full resolution detail shots.

Is it me or is The Red keep portrayed different here then in the series? This is a great map, imagine it could be a real city

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

torstan In reply to Olivarius [2013-04-03 15:38:01 +0000 UTC]

Yes, the Red Keep is different between these maps and the series. The series has a different look, but this one is designed to be consistent with the illustration created by Ted Nasmith: [link]

Thank you for the information, wich one do you prefer this concept or the one from the series?

torstan In reply to Olivarius [2013-04-06 23:42:40 +0000 UTC]

I like both actually. Originally I'd created a 3rd take on it, but that'll never see the light of day

I would love to see it I like the castle from the series more because it has a more intimidating look.

SuperCJ [2013-03-28 00:13:19 +0000 UTC]

I love how these maps are changing my perspective of the series. I thought that Maegor's Holdfast was on a hill farther away from the bay, not right up in front. That makes the Battle of the Blackwater seem more intense with the castle looming over it like that.

torstan In reply to SuperCJ [2013-03-28 12:32:54 +0000 UTC]

Yep, it's right in the heart of the battle, looking out over the river chain.

BTW, in what product can I see the full resolution (or at least a bigger) map?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

torstan In reply to butterfrog [2013-03-20 20:22:18 +0000 UTC]

Full resolution only appears in the print product: [link] - along with the other 11 poster maps.

If you want to see a couple of high res thumbnails cut out from the map - there are some detail shots on the blog: [link]

This is one of the most (if not THE most) fantastic city maps I've ever seen.

Sir, I take my hat off and bow to your awesomeness!

The dark spots in the map, are those clouds or land depressions?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

torstan In reply to butterfrog [2013-03-20 20:21:11 +0000 UTC]

They're the shadows on the facing slopes of the three hills.

Thanks! This one was a monster undertaking. I'm really pleased with how it came out (though it was the hardest to tear myself away from - this was the map in which I can see the most things that could still be tweaked and improved!)

Man, this is awesome. I'd commission a map from you, but I fear I'm far too poor.

I'm afraid I'm also far too busy right now! Check in on the mapmaking requests forum on the Cartographers' Guild - you'll find lots of people there who will create maps for reasonable rates: [link]

VulcanTrekkie45 In reply to torstan [2013-03-20 13:46:25 +0000 UTC]

I'll keep that in mind. I'm pretty good at making modern-looking maps, but works of art like this are definitely beyond me. Maybe when I finish the current project I'm working on (which at the rate I'm going will probably be several months to well over a year from now), I'll contact you about possibly doing a map like this for my kingdom's capital city.

Hey this is excellent and the close ups you have on your blog are even better. I get the feeling that I would go cross eyed if I tried to make 6 square feet of tiny buildings too.
