Description
Recently I developed something of a hankering to cosplay Merlin from the BBC series of the same name.I know it's a really cheesy show but... that's kind of the appeal.
Later this month some friends are having a costume party with a 'fantasy' theme, so, being that I can't pass up costume parties (ever) and Merlin fits the theme, it seemed like a good time to put an end to that hankering.
The red scarf is leftover fabric from the tunicΒ I made for Squidzorz .
The edges have all been frayed and finished with a straight stitch to prevent them from getting too frayed.
The tunic is blue crepe. The sleeve cuffs and hem have been double-rolled. Cuffs were machine stitched and hem was hand stitched.
The neckline is bound (binding was hand-stitched).
There are 4 eyelets on the opening of the neck which are threaded with a blue polyester ribbon.
The coat is a tan coloured felted wool which was gifted to me (I know his coat is probably leather in the show but I couldn't warrant spending the money on something I'm not likely to wear more than twice) and has been lined with blue shirting.
All that white stitching was done by hand and took about 10 hours. LOL @ FINGERTIPS WTF ARE THOSE?!
Note: Tunic has been re-made and photographs updated.

The blue tunic?
Is actually very simple! The base pattern was a loose top with kimono-style sleeves, but I think it would be possible with any sort of lose-top pattern, just make the sleeves longer and wider. It can be lengthened too, if the base pattern is too short, just do a couple of mock-ups first to make sure it fits properly.

I still wear this one a fair bit so he's not up for sale (or trade) at the moment, but I'll be taking a few commissions in October if you'd be interested in ordering one like it then?

The tunic and scarf would be about $60 (AUD) and come together, but the jacket would be about $90 (AUD) due to being lined and all the hand-stitching which takes quite a long time. So all up would be about $150(AUD) (not including postage/shipping costs).
But, while I don't have a video going over it, there is an entry on my personal blog where I tried to cover everything (and if you have any questions about drafting or construction I'll do my best to answer them).
All of the patterns I use these days are ones I've drafted myself, so I don't really know any specific brands or styles to recommend. But generally if you want to alter a store purchased pattern, go for a really simple/basic one and it will be a lot easier.
Or you can find cheap/second-hand clothing to alter.
Hope some of that helps!

Thank you! I'm not even raging at it or anything which is different.
Maybe because I got to watch an unprecedented amount of television while working on it.

No... unfortunately.
It was Heavy Metal and Heavy Metal 2000, as well as a bunch of random anime episodes from a promo disk I was given at Armageddon and several hours of free-to-air digital television.
