Description Many organisms in Oshar are highly magical in nature, and plants are no exception. Here are some examples:

----SCREAMING WATERWEED----
  • Aquatic freshwater flowering plant (very basal angiosperm, neither a monocot nor a eudicot) that grows in ponds and the shallows of lakes.
  • Almost like a creeper or vine, grasping at stones, roots and other objects with specialized tendrils
  • Forms huge colonies that often overwhelm many other plant species, by penetrating them with their roots and parasitically stealing their nutrients.
  • Its flowers have a very distinctive scent that attracts pollinating insects. The flowers are also visually striking, and highly attractive to bees.
  • Magical in nature (highly sought after as an ingredient in alchemy), can "record" various distinctive sounds around it with its "parabolic dish" shaped leaves and then "replay" them at incredible volume if the stems or leaves of the plant are attacked. Known as the "Screaming waterweed" or the "Deafening watervine".
  • Somewhat distantly related to spirit-weeds, very intelligent by plant standards. Mainly uses this intelligence to pick and choose the best sounds to weaponize against herbivores that try to eat it.
  • A fruiting plant whose seeds are encased in a very hard Β shell that protects them against the digestive systems of fish that eat the nutritious floating fruit (light and floating fruit flesh, with a dense seed that otherwise sinks). The seeds are then dispersed in the fish's droppings, and sink to the bottom. Also able to spread via budding.
  • Can become a major invasive weed in places where it is not native.
  • The plants are a big problem for rice farmers. Many arrangements exist between said farmers and local alchemists, who either get paid by the farmers to help weed the fields, or the farmers pick the vines themselves and sell them to the alchemists.
  • To compensate for the potential hearing damage when removing the vines, there often exists an official "rice farmer's discount" for potions made using these plants.

----TEMPTRESS BLOOM----
  • The Temptress Bloom is a very large carnivorous plant native to the tropical swamps and jungles of the elven continent.
  • Using a mix of pheromones, and psychic signals emitted by ever-changing and writhing psychedelic patterns on its petals, it mesmerizes vetrebrates into approaching it.
  • Once the victim is close enough and steps on the sticky leaves, hundreds of highly toxic needles shoot out of the orange patches at the base of the petals, causing very rapid death.
  • Insects are unaffected by the plant's bewitching effects, and serve as its main pollinators. The flower itself actually has a very pleasant scent.
  • Temptress Vines are one of the few serious natural predators of trolls (mostly young ones, as adults are far too big). Although the trolls are mostly immune to magical and psychic effects, they can still be drawn in with the plants' pheromones.

----SEA BRIAR----

  • Bizarre saltwater-tolerant non-flowering climbing/creeping plant.
  • Lives in large mats or colonies, usually symbiotically with coconut palms. Hooks onto the outer layers of the coconut and spreads by floating out to sea.
  • Has net-like barbed roots that catch marine debris (such as seaweed or rotting wood), which eventually rots and provides the roots with nutrients.
  • Surprisingly motile, shakes and loudly rustles its above-water portion if threatened.
  • Covered in sharp, venomous needles (like a stinging nettle). All parts of it are poisonous.
  • Its cones have magical properties, and have some uses in potion-making (albeit at some risk to the drinker if not properly prepared). The cones are green like the rest of the plant, and are fairly hard to spot.
