amazing light, perspective and style !
It's more eye-catching than the usual cemetery photos, the trees and tree branches at the corners make the cemetery look like it is embraced by the forest and sadness disappears..making room for a more ethereal atmosphere....

Something about the way morning light shifts & bends. It looks way different than the light at any other time of day, save, maybe evening.

I've always admired the work of cinematographer Haskell Wexler, who was a strong proponent of shooting during "Golden Hour" - the time of day when the sun was first up in the morning or just before it set in the evening. This image is driven so much though by the morning fog, and the "layering" it creates. I think the photo has an almost three-dimensional feel to it.

I love the fact that the statue is off-center, because it makes the composition more equilibrated in my opinion!

Thanks, and it was definitely what I was going for. It's one thing if a particular statuary is really intended to be the focus, but here I what I like is the movement from the statue to the next tall headstone behind it to the next and so on. I think it creates a nice subtle progression.

I photographed this in a cemetery near my home in Baltimore, Maryland USA. This particular area of the cemetery is primarily graves dating from the mid the late 19th century. They are very expressive, somber, but also lovely.
