Okay, usually media is based on some sort of toy, book, or comic series. Most of the times it's the other way around. But series based on things that are hardly even toys or comic books... they don't usually fly well. Especially kids advertising products! I think it's just some genius executive's plan to get on the good side of the marketers of the original product, but he fails anyway! And even though the Disrespectoids from the Capri Sun ads got their own web series, I couldn't find it anywhere on any modern cartoon sites, so I guess my curiosity was a little late. On the other hand, Moonscoop took a big risk giving those superheroes from the Skechers commercials in the late 2000s their own animated series with a twist on it. To practically the surprise of everyone who saw Zevo-3 the first time, it didn't make them look like chumps!

Here's the plot of this series: Years ago, a scientist named Stan Foot, who was the heir to a chemical fortune in this place called Stankville, invented a strange formula and dubbed it "the Zevo Compound". He was originally going to sell it on the black market, until something went horribly wrong and he ended up like Han Solo - frozen in carbonite. Because of the explosion, living creatures in Stankville became horribly mutated, but not with TMNT-esque human physique. Years later, a business mogul named Brett Ronson (known fact, in the series, he always seems sweaty and it doesn't even fase him) bought the neighboring island on the other side of Stankville, and reforged it into a thriving metropolis known as New Eden City. Supposedly, his idea of a utopia. Now on to the story - One day, Jason, a young parkour athlete in-training was considering some sick moves in the uncharted part of Stankville. He took a wrong turn in the sewer when he ran into Eleanor, a responsible yet svelte girl, and her little brother Matthew, who is always looking for a good prank and intrigue. After Matt mysteriously locked in a strange code (which was just at the push of the button), the three were exposed. Zevo Compound was flowing all over the place! However, their effect was much different. All of a sudden, Jason saw metal shards merging with his skin without pain. Eleanor noticed her hair had a strange vibe. And Matt, after landing in liquid nitrogen tanks, was completely fine. Then a slighter twist takes its toll when the Zevo Compound takes effect and they transform into superheroes... with powers based on how their effects reached them! Essentially, it worked liked the mutagen in TMNT but with objects and not animals. Jason and Eleanor believed that Matt ruined their lives despite Matt's whole "superhero club" theory. And then they went their separate ways.

But little do they knew there was more. Stan Foot awakened after the Zevo Compound entered his frozen body. He found it had aged! And to his dismay, he also discovered his beloved city what he once loved is different. Not exactly grungy like he wanted it. But how could he destroy the new property owned by Mr. Ronson? Believe it or not, he created Blacktop, a behemoth which was formed from his footprints that merged with the Zevo Compound. As much as I like to call it a bad case of athlete's foot, it's the truth. And thus he initiated his order. It actually snuck into New Eden City and spread panic! And the only way Matt could convince his sister and Jason is to record the panic on his phone and combat them. Ever since, the three have stuck together and have to fight the source and find the cure to stop this. Brett Ronson, on the other hand, wants to keep his utopia spotless and mutant-free no matter the cost in funding for his real plan. So, in a way, our heroes are fighting two antagonists at the same time.

In conclusion, if you want something obscure that really has potential and several elements from shows you liked, Zevo-3 is a good recommendation!

Final Score: 37 (Bonus: It did the impossible by taking their idea from sneaker commercials.)

I watched a few episodes of this show realized how stupid it was? Who the hell threw money at this and say make a show with Sketcher mascots?

This series is probably at the top of the list of "This REALLY shouldn't be as good as it is!" alongside stuff like The Brave Little Toaster, the Hercules midquel cartoon (and several other Disney cartoons), and even that 2015 Rainbow Brite reboot I did an AU review on way back in the day. It's taking a COMMERCIAL and making it into its own cartoon: that's supposed to be a cautionary tale on what NOT to do. That's how we got Cavemen, and Space Jam, and Baby Bob.
