Description Russian Roulette anyone..?

This is a 1927-dated Russian Nagant M1895 seven-shot, double-acting revolver. It was produced for Tsarist Russia and saw continued service in the Soviet Union, though it is a weapon of Belgian design and was first introduced in the year it's name suggests.
The Nagant became well known for it's reliability along with it's distinctive name and image, although it was the way in which the revolver functioned (and the rounds it fired) that made it unique.
When most revolvers are fired, gasses that assist in the propulsion of the bullet escape through the gap between the cylinder and the barrel that allows the cylinder to revolve. However, when the Nagant is cocked, the cylinder moves forward to seal this gap, preventing the escape of gasses and theoretically increasing projectile velocity. The 7.62x38 round is designed to further improve this feature, with the bullet seated deep into the casing, which expands and forms a seal with the barrel opening upon firing.
As well as the gun's infamous legacy of Russian Roulette, the Nagant revolver was used in the brutal execution of the Tsarist Romanov family...

originally this gun is from belgium but wasn't a success due to its heavy trigger, the resistance was quite high with ten or up to 18 kg so it was sold to Russia

I was going to get one of these untill I found out how strange and hard to come by its ammunition is. If only they had chambered it in a more conventional round. I guess a Tokarev will have to do. But playing Russian Roulette would be no fun with a semi-auto handgun.

Haha, no, not at all!

I read somewhere that someone actually tried that after reading about it in an article in a magazine, calling the game variant "Polish Roulette". They won a Darwin Award for it.

Thanks, and yeah, it is debateable as to whether it originated in Russia or not. Though it's thought to be unlikely, sources do refer to the Nagant's use in variations of the game and other practically suicidal acts. Even if it is merely an urban legend, it's not suprising that it's generally accepted when considering the state of the Russian military at the time. Truth or not, this firearm will always be associated with the game...

And as for the Molotov cocktails, that's all down to confusion of it's name's origin. The Finns ironically named the improvised weapon after the Russian Commissar Molotov when it was first pioneered in the Winter War. I guess that irony still holds up, as people frequently mistake it as Russian, not a weapon of the enemy!

Gotta love all of this useless history.
