Description
A WW2 (1943 dated) Soviet PPSh-41 submachine gun, fitted with original 71 round drum magazine. This weapon fires the 7.62x25mm Tokarev pistol round, at a rate of 900rpm with an effective range of up to 300 metres. It was designed to be durable yet easily mass-produced, with 6 million of them made by the end of the war. When captured by Wehrmacht troops, many replaced their own weapon with the PPSh-41, proving it's reliability...This weapon is deactivated. Let me know what you think, comments and criticism are appreciated. Thanks for looking!

My weapons are deactivated, and they would never make it through customs! As far as I'm aware, owning deacts is nearly impossible in the USA, though I imagine you're looking for a functioning example anyhow.

Business end view... Pity you have to de-ack them, but laws is laws- no matter how stupid they may be. Heh. Come out to Nevada- we can actually go blow up landscape!
Making on of these in semi-auto, 16" barrel (for legality). Hope to finish it this winter!

I have an original Russian Tokarev, but all of my weapons are deactivated according to the law here. I don't mind, as I collect for historical and aesthetic interest, even if shooting would be fun.

TT-33, though it's post-war. I have a WW2 dated one at one point, though I've since sold it.

Nice! They're beautiful rifles with history. I'd love one, even if it would have to be deactivated like this... I'm probably getting one soon.

Yeah, altered permanently so that it can't fire. Guns are almost completely illegal in the UK. I collect them out of historical interest, and have them displayed.

Yeah, that makes me a little jealous. I can't believe how cheap those rifles are over there. Here a deactivated one would cost more than three times as much simply because only a few companies are licensed to import them. Despite that, they're relatively cheap compared to other deactivated weapons, and will be the cheapest I've bought! They retain and increase in value though, so they're good investments.

One note, the PPSh used the pistol caliber, and could use the pistol ammo, but used special up-loaded rounds that the pistol couldn't use.
I don't mean to be an ass, but I'm just saying.

No worries, it's always good to have facts straight on this kind of thing. I would have assumed the two weapons used the same round for the ability to use them interchangeably if really necessary, despite the two loadings? Maybe it was for ease of production.

They can kind of use ammo for the other type, but the fact remains. You will either get worse performance, or blow up your gun and possibly injure yourself extremely badly. Hot chunks of metal aren't exactly great to have contact your skin. Especially when those hot chunks are jagged and flying extremely fast. And I don't know why they were different. I mean, I can understand why they would have the two loadings, from a front-line point of view, but not from a supply, fabrication, or a designer point of view. I mean, one would think that they would modify the cartridges slightly, like how designers went from the .38, to the .38 Special, to the .38 Super, to the .357 Mag.

Yeah, I would imagine if anything it would have been a case of TT-33 rounds being used in the SMGs- but thinking about it, I can't really see any likely scenario this would have been necessary in. Ah well, I learned something.

PPSh-41 is the best submachinegun during ww2, not alone by its good performance and high firerate, but also because during the production in the factories there are almost no bolts used and put instead much wood into the gun, which the production goes superfast.

Indeed! I have seen a video on the production of the PPSh-41, and it is fast- just what was needed during wartime. This particular example does not have a blued finish, making me wonder whether this was skipped to speed up production process.

now this is a machine pistol to look out for, Reliable, cheap to manufacture in large numbers during ww2, Somehow I don't think the thought of dropping this weapon in exhange for a german one would ever cross a soviet soldiers mind. Unfortunately I live in the UK so the chances of owning a true fire arm is out of the window, still great weapon

ToxicGas In reply to WHITEDEVIL92 [2009-09-02 08:38:43 +0000 UTC]
All very true- the Soviets were proud of this gun, and the Germans wouldn't hesitate to wield it. They even converted many PPSh-41s to fire German ammunition.
I also live in the UK, so owning a working firearm is out of the window for me too. Despite this you can still own a piece of history such as this, which is deactivated.
