Description
She found a packet that some adult carelessly left on a park bench together with a lighter. So she picked them up and secreted herself in a hidden corner and carefully examined her spoils. Then she took out one of the cigarettes and cautiously sniffed it.It had an interesting rich aroma.
She looked at the long cylindrical object, scrutinizing its fine details, wondering why so many adults were so enamored with this type of object. Her childlike curiosity, getting the better of her, she lit one exactly the way she had seen other adults do it and took a drag ...
Bleh ...
What the ...
So she took another drag. This time allowing the smoke to enter her lungs.
*cough*
*cough*
*gag*
It did not take long for the nicotine's effect to kick in. Her eyes crossed for a moment and she felt light headed, but she felt good.
So she cautiously took another drag.
Now she's feeling dizzy and she wondered why adults found this stuff so "nice".
Curiosity and the nicotine got the better of her, so she took yet another drag. This time she felt ... relaxed ... at peace with the world ... she felt calm ... it was a nice feeling..
So she took a few more drags until the cigarette had nearly burnt to the filter and so she tossed that in the manner that she's seen adults do it. Picked up the rest of the pack and pocketed it. She got up. Felt a bit queasy for a moment, but it was just a passing symptom which was quickly replaced by a "feel good" feeling.
Hmmmm, she thought: "I could really get used to this stuff" ... and so this was how she got hooked.
AND YES IT ONLY TAKES ONE, SO DON'T

Note: I am a smoker; I've been smoking since high school which is where I picked up the habit. Seriously smoking is BAD FOR YOUR HEALTH and forget about trying to quit. It's almost impossible; I've lost count of the number of times I've 'quit' only to pick up the habit again down the line.
Other drugs might kill you and then again they might not; cigarettes on the other hand will eventually kill you for certain.

I know this is old, but I just wanted to point something out: I to am a smoker myself (have been doing so since I was in first year of highschool), yeah the first time I had one I did I did end up coughing like crazy, but then after I had another on, and another ect., ect., I did eventually stop coughing (since at that point I was used to it). The reason why I started was because my grandmother was a smoker, my uncle (as in my mum and my dad's brothers) was a smoker, my dad himself was a smoker, and then I evntually picked up the habit. Guys please for the sake of your health, don't do it, it will eventually kill you. I also can't remember the number of timesΒ I've ''quitted'' then piked up the dirty habit again.

That's how most of us start and it is really hard to quit. So what she said "don't do it".

My dad smoked till he was about 30 and gave up for good. My grandfather smoked until he died at the age of 100 ... so hmmmmmm ... mind you he did have emphysema and that was no fun towards the end.

I am not going to make an argument that smoking doesn't kill or isn't harmful, but at the same time, I think that there is a lot of misinformation on the actual danger to the population as a whole. I think in the final analysis, whether or not smoking will kill you, may partially be determined by your genes.

Anyhow, I have no plans at all to start to smoke, I grew up with the notion of money being scarce because my mom NEEDED to have her cigarrettes, just because of that waste of money IΒ΄m not starting.

It only took 3 days for my mom to quit. it's not that hard. people always think it's so hard when it's not.
Don't look at it as "forever" just think "not right now" or "not today" if you can. It'll help I swear.

My mom was able to stop, you really have to push yourself to the limit, I would wet the cigarettes, hide them, throw them away, no matter if she was going to take something away from me, I was taking care of her health, now she stopped... but I get dreams that she starts to smoke again and I wake up crying...If I ever see my mother with a cigarette again, I swear I will yell at her and lock myself in my room and not come out at all...I would do that every day if I have to, just go on the computer and do nothing, not go tot he bathroom, not eat, to show her, but I doubt she will smoke again...

That really helps when someone is trying to quit smoking. Having someone there to support them (in a positive way).

Yeah, I will do anything so that my mother has a good health...
sadly I can't do the same with my grandmother, because my grandfather has the Alzheimer disease so she's very stressful, and as I read it in Wikipedia " The disease keeps getting worse ", so there is not much we can do about him... I feel bad for my grandmother because soon she may not even be able to leave the house, so me and my mother have to help and support her in every way possible.

Smoking in front of non-smokers is just rude. It's a pity it required Laws to prevent something that common decency should have been sufficient to address.

Asthma and smoking really isn't a good mix ... strangely though, there's a Native American tribe that uses smoking (not nicotine, some other drug) as a cure for asthma.

People smoke a lot of funny things. Nicotine just happens to be the most common.
