Description I'm really, really sorry about the lack of update, guys. Struggling a lot with the comic lately.
I put this panel process rundown together for Draw! recently, though, and even though it's not very exciting, I figured at least it's something I could share in the meantime.

This process has gotten vastly more complicated since I started working on Lackadaisy. Pages used to be almost 100% pencil with just a little sepia tone added digitally. Now, after penciling, a panel often requires hours of additional work. (Put 12 or 15 panels together per page, and it adds up to at least part of the reason I fail so hard at regular updates.)
------------------

Other Lackadaisy stuff is here . Twitter and Facebook announce site updates too.

Yes! You did make a process sheet! I love these, they really help me learn. I've fallen in love with your comic, I have to say. What characters! What complexity! What beauty in the colouring and layout!
Actually, what am I saying? There's no what about it, it's all right there to see. Your expressions, I think, are the most vibrant and well, expressive I've seen! You leave Disney, DC, Marvel and Manga in the dust when it comes to the imagination not only in the face but in body language and form. Truly loving it.

I really like Lackadaisy. It's so detailed and everything, sometimes it all looks so realistic (about at every page!) but I actually stopped reading it because it was too detailed... I got a bit tired of looking at all these details and all these shadows... like it as artwork but not as an entire comic... stuff like Disney and anime is so successful because it's all a bit simplified, I guess.

hope it was usefull, don't mean to break you down (I'm FAR from what you are right now).

Cool. I don't intend to copy your style, but I could definitely use the tips on layers, mediums, and then going from there. I never thought of mellowing a whole picture based on the light settings and going from there; thanks for sharing!

This is amazing. I've been following your stuff for a while now, and this really clears up a lot of questions. Do you use different layers for each pass? I've just discovered that it pays off to play with the top layer of linework, and I've done some graphite sequential work but your stuff- your stuff is just phenomenal! You are so real with character building and expressions, I can tell you really put yourself in that world and really think your character's actions through - they are always very true to theirselves. Your work is so wonderful and such an inspiration - keep it up! And thanks for keeping up!

The layering of the 2 sepia shots instantly reminded me of HDR photography is done. Doing that with a drawing - awesome.

DAMN! It never ceases to amaze me how differently comic and manga artists work from each other, and this is just astounding! Your use of pencils is what I find most interesting. Most of the artists I've researched ink their work, but in this case softer pencils make so much sense for things like the cats' fur. The end result is just gorgeous!

The layering of the two different sepia tones is really interesting, and not something I ever would have considered as a solution. I like the range of tone and dimension it adds, the light looks so much more convincing than in either of the two single images (though they both look pretty damn good!).

omg I didnt know you messed with the sepia tone that way, so that you merge a light and dark together for shadows and highlights. That's genius!

But, my goodness, you must go mad trying to color all of the cells like this by yourself.

I'm very surprised at how well your scanner picks up your pencilwork though, when mine has a hard time detecting INK. hahah

One question though, how do you make cells and word bubbles so neatly?

Wow, that looks pain=stakingly long to make...I've just looked through four pages of this comic and I must say, I am very impressed. The detail and plot that goes into them, as well as the dark comedy, is bought together superbly

+1 suscriber

I have tried to do fonts earlier, but it worked not well.
What software did you create your own font?
How did you do it?

Btw! You describe this process very easy and good. I love this story.
