I saw this up on Spiderguile's page and had to comment here - what you tried to do here with this gorgeous green and the purple for secondary lighting, that's not actually a palette that a lot of mainstream colorists would have used, it's very daring.

And it's absolutely stunning, good job!

Warm up piece? ThatΒ΄s great!

She looks even better than in the movies...

But what about the claws? I though her power was to absorb energy of whoever she touches...

All the best,

Chris

Yeah, they are supposed to be the 'bone claws' from Wolverine, and of course she wouldn't have the adamantium that he does, but I totally forgot about that when I colored it. hehehΒ

Thank you for the comment!

I don't usually like this version of Rogue's costume but your's is very good and it really suits the body style you created

Well I didn't draw it, I only colored it. *SpiderGuile did a fantastic job on the drawing. I think he did a beautiful job on the drawing and inks, it really inspired me to want to color her. I'm really glad you like how it turned out with the colors! Thanks for the feedback!

Would you happen to know what the going rate is for an inker per comic page?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TracyWong In reply to stump100 [2013-12-04 01:38:32 +0000 UTC]

Oh gosh, that's a tough one since different companies have WIDE ranges of pay. Some small independent companies I've seen pay their inkers only $10 a page (I've been offered even $5 a page before for ink work. lol Yeah...), then it goes up from there all the way to well over a hundred dollars a page for those how are well established in the industry and have their names out there. Those are the Marvel and DC guys though. Β When artists start out in the industry you most likely are going to have to work well on the low end of the pay grade, until you get your skills up and start getting your name out there.Β

And as a new artist on the scene, their will probably be a LOT of people asking you to do work for free for the "exposure", to me that is worth it sometimes - but usuallyΒ justΒ when you first start out. Sometimes it's good to *every once in a while* work for free just for the first year or 2 to get in the practice of working with deadlines, getting your name out there, and getting published. But that's a choice every artist has to make. I still, even after working as a colorist for 5 years, get people asking me to do work for free for the "exposure" but sadly they are usually for small independent companies that no one has heard of. So that's not worth it IMO to do since the exposure is so minimal. If Marvel or something asked me to do a cover for free, I'd jump on it for the exposure. lol But after that, it's pay time! hahah

As far as what you charge, that's going to change from year to year (and if you grow and get better at inking it will be faster than that, maybe even every six months). I'd start on the low end though and go up from there. You can alwaysΒ raiseΒ your rates if you're getting a lot of job offers. I hope that helps.

As always, that helps me greatly, thanks so much. I've just had a guy on Facebook ask what my per page rate is and it kinda threw me for a loop, wasn't expecting that so soon. Still not quite sure what to tell him, I'm not even quite sure what the work is yet. Guess I'd better answer him before he finds someone else. LOL Thanks again for your assistance, your awesome!!!!

TracyWong In reply to stump100 [2013-12-04 06:40:25 +0000 UTC]

I'd ask him for a sample page that represents and average page. Different types of pages will take you MUCH longer than others - based on how tight the pencil work is and how many panels the penciler likes to add per page, and how detailed the page is. I always ask them to send me a low res sample of one of the pages that represents an "average" page from the project. Once you take a look at it you can base your rates on that. I always charge more for images that are going to be more difficult and time consuming to ink.Β

That's just the way I do it. Some inkers have very firm page rates and they charge exactly the same page rate - regardless of the project. I don't think I could ever do that, as some projects are a LOT more work depending on the penciler you're working with.Β

Hello Stacy, I see by a post on here that it is artist appreciation day, so I wanted to say how much I appreciated all the help and encouragement you have given me as I begin my journey in this great and crazy business. It's great that veteran artists help out and give advice to newcomers and I hope someday to have the experience and knowhow to help someone else out who is in my situation now. I've also been dabbling a little bit into doing colours, so now I really appreciate what a great colourist you are, because my friend, colours aint easy. So in short, thanks for all the help,, great work and keep on being a fantastic artist and an even better person!

Dawwww! That's really so sweet! I... I'm speechless that you would think of me on artist appreciation day!

Thank you, my friend!

And it's my pleasure to help out when I can. Sometimes I get busy and can't leave as much feedback so if you ever have any questions (particularly now that you're dabbling into coloring) feel free to ask. I'm not a great artist by any stretch of the imagination but I am always open to passing along the things that I have learned and the stuff that works so far for me in my current skill level.

Thanks again for thinking of me and for the awesome comment!
