Description I've reworked one of my newer pieces called Gliese 581 c (like the discovered "super-earth")

and as `priteeboy suggested a new more moonlike texture for the planet in the foreground

The texture for the background planet is now a 16.000 pixel instead of a 8.000 pixel resolution texture wich was made from NASA images. The original render resolution was 6000x6000 for the big and 640x640 for the small one.

The planet texture for the smaller one is a texture from the moon phobos.

Here's the old one:

Overall

Vision

Originality

Technique

Impact

It is very beautiful. It is simplistic in a complex sort of way (try to figure that one out e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Big Grin)"/>). Perhaps i show favoritism to this because of the between worlds feel it has that almost captures the feeling of freedom. The definition you worked at is stellar. The use of shading and lighting are both to your advantage and fairly accurate. The logo at the bottom right corner blends well enough to not distract from the image but pops enough to claim the much deserved credit for this piece of work. I can't say it is the most original as it is not (it's space how does one be original) thus 4/5.
To me the vision is quite clear behind it, hence the 5/5. Technique i had no idea what to put so i put 4.5/5. and impact is a solid 5/5.

But it could take some time, because I'm working on another huge project

No problem... Is the size you posted the biggest you have?

TRAEMORE In reply to devcatwow [2012-09-15 17:18:11 +0000 UTC]

Yup, atm it's the only size I have to be precise

That would be great. I hesitate to ask, but if you're volunteering... Just as it is, but in iMac size. Ideally the 27" (2560-x-1,440 pixels), but I'll take anything.

One of the best planet renders I've seen. Very well done. I'd like yo use it as my wallpaper on an iMac. Do you have higher resolutions? Thanks.

Very nice - I like that a lot... In fact, I'm a sucker for this type of orbital view and have a done a few myself

Two things - nit-picking really:
• the position of the sun, the shadow on the main planets surface and the shadow on the moon don't seem to quite match-up.
• I think you could saturate the colours just a little bit more - the band where sunlight meets shadow on the planets surface is sunrise or sunset. We normally associate that with colour bands yellows/orange/reds.

But as I say, this is nit-picking - it's a great image, well done!

Why do you think you're bad at it? This one is pretty badass :thumb298173287:

And thanks for the suggestions! I'll do some fixes when I've got time

This is Brilliant, I have a great fascination of the Gliese 581 system, Made a art of the Gliese 581 b my self but completely on Photoshop, your's I think is done using a some 3D software form the looks of the very realistic lighting. great work..

TRAEMORE In reply to fallenZeraphine [2012-08-21 17:54:37 +0000 UTC]

Thanks and yes, I've used a 3d software to create the planets
In fact the planets were created in 3ds MAX 2012 and put together with some lightning effects in photoshop.

Here's a tutorial from the awesome ~hoevelkamp for the setup in 3ds max and the planet map creation in photoshop: [link]

Have fun with it

Ah yes I have learned much from that tutorial in the past, thanks for sharing none the less, These days I'm trying my hand with Cinema 4D, see how it is for creating space art...

One tip, it's not a big deal, but it would be nice if you included a link to the original in the description.
