See... I went in braced for Navi to never shut up and always be directing me towards things I already knew thank you very much and all the horror stories I'd heard about her.
Instead I found a companion who was... chatty... but had an absurd predilection for informing me of where I needed to go almost immediately after I found myself wondering where to go next. Β She was /remarkably/ useful to me. Β Maybe if people played in shorter stretches, more spread out, she'd come across as more useful to more people. Β Or maybe I was just the right kind of forgetful Navi was designed to help. Β I'm still not sure, either way. Β Point is I liked her and am apparently something like a duck with a mohawk riding a unicorn.

Talking solves a lot a problems. If only people would do that more often. I mean, I like hammers and all, but...diplomacy and friendliness can take you a long way.

The one thing that bothers me about this: Navi is always credited with being THE MOST ANNOYING TIP GIVER IN A GAME! Next to Omachao in Sonic Generations. But in the game, Navi doesn't tell you the same thing 10 MILLION TIMES! It's just 1 or 2 times, and then she only tells you IF YOU WANT HER TO! The only annoying part of her in the game, is when she tells you to go to your next destination, WHEN YOU'RE GOING TO YOUR NEXT DESTINATION! Other than that, Navi is how I would depict a hints guide, and it's CERTIANLY BETTER than Omachao!

I think it's mostly that every time you get near something of interest, she says "Listen!" in her gratingly high pitched voice. It never bothered me, and her tips helped somewhat, but I could see it getting annoying for most.

It seems to be this artist's "thing". When depicting the Zelda-verse, he usually (not always, but usually) depicts a world where Link was already a girl.
It's called Rule 63 of the Internet: For any given character, there is fan art of that character as the opposite gender.
The fact that Link already has long-ish hair and a "skirt" doesn't help matters. Or the fact that the series is titled "The Legend of Zelda" and some people think the title refers to the playable character for whatever reason.
