I mean... that's not actually how it works in either of their games? Only Metroid Fusion has her gain powers from bosses directly, whileΒ the others, bar the one we don't talk about, just have the powerups coincidentally behind the boss room, which neither party was even necessarily aware of at the time. Meanwhile, Mega Man doesn't need to actually take bits from his foes; he just copies them, and rather infamously leaves the innate ability of all things with fists to punch you in the face.
Even funnier is the fact that Kirby was allowed to retain his power stealing, unlike either of the above characters.
