Description
"You are part of the night, just like me. We're not afraid of the dark — we come alive in it — we're thrilled by it..."I have severe night terrors and, as a result, I have very few dreams (and nightmares) that I will actually remember when I awake the next day. My dreams always have this strange film-like quality. And I had the weirdest dream last night and woke up on the wrong side of the bed, with a terrible back pain and stomach craps, and yet, like most of my intense dreams, it will nag and eat away at me until I draw them out! The product was Rorschach in Gotham. It's a working title, but it really says it all.
Taking place during the passing of Keene Act to illegalise costumed crime-fighting, Nite Owl II has been missing for three days. The Crimebusters (...uh, Watchmen) have broken up and carried on a lacklustre search for their comrade, so Rorschach takes his own line of investigation to find his only true friend and the clues lead him to Gotham City, perhaps with a little help from a costumed cat burglar. (This is a conceptual plot and it's subject to change.)
For those who don't know, I'm a huge Batman fan and Watchmen fan. I may do a short comic on this, a short story, or a full-on fiction; or it could be a collection of vignettes of him fighting Gotham Rogues' Gallery — or Batman himself. I really haven't decided yet. Nonetheless, I certainly love how this drawing came, so I'm going to fix the proportions (majorly!), draw some word balloons (maybe!), sketch in a background (gasp!), clean it up, and colour it — and we'll see how it goes from there. (I'm trying to do this by incorporating the 90s Batman: The Animated Series "dark noir" style, but I don't think I'm succeeding at all. It still looks too much like my own overtly cartoony style.)
Medium - HB and 2B mechanical pencil.

I'm loving this...especially the "minimalist" word balloons, which are appropriate for both characters!

Thank you. I do the "minimalist" balloons more often than you may thing. I have a habit of erasing and improving dialogue, so it's more convenient to have these kinds of balloons.

To be honest, I'm not the first. A few people on DA beat me to it, but I'd like to hope that I, at least, did my best. Because Watchmen and Batman really deserve the best. I hope they don't mind me building castles in their sandbox.

Awwwww...denied! That's just heartbreaking. What a burn... Now, I feel the pressure.
It's funny that I thought of the same introduction, where Manhattan transports Rorschach into Gotham City. But since it's been done here, I guess I can't use it as an option now. I seem to like the idea of the Keene riots in Gotham. With all their costumed heroes and villains, Gotham would probably be hit a hell of a lot worse than the Watchmen-verse New York ever would.

I can picture that if Gotham City was part of the Watchmen-verse. With all their costumed vigilantes and villains, they would be hit the hardest by the Keene riots. Perhaps even more than New York. I like the idea of Rorschach coming into a DC's very own "Hell on Earth," Gotham.

hm... *looks closely at pic* well, if you weren't looking at a reference pic then it's awesome! if you were, then i'd say the shape of her nose isn't quite accurate to the way the animators drew her. and they do her jawline a little more curved i think. i've not looked at pics for awhile. but i really like it

Ah, this is so awesome! I love Catwoman too, a really great villain! Along with the 'real Batman movies' (like ~Gracie-Gru worded it ), I also liked the version of her from The Animated Series. Loved to see it in color!

Of all the Batman's Rogues Gallery, Catwoman is the closest "equal" to Rorschach and would be the only one who could tickle his interest, despite all this issues. She's a good yang to his yin and, I feel, they could play off each other extremely well.
Also, I, too, love and adore the animated series, pre-revamp. I've always wanted to do a tribute to the series. I've been a fan of the series since its sneak peek in the early 90s and I have followed it diligently through its incarnations, down to New Frontier, Gotham Knights, and the upcoming animated Wonder Woman direct-to-video feature. I even introduced my little cousins -- ages 4 to 12 -- to this series and they love it. They always go up to me and say "Did you bring Batman?!" This looks like my chance to show my love and adoration for the series through my own art.
Unfortunately, I'm trying to adapt the pre-revamp "dark noir" style and I don't seem to be succeeding. Although, I found out that I accidentally used "GMD mouse proportions" in this drawing. I feel so stupid and I'm going to change it in the clean-up and colour. It looks better now, but I haven't quite got it yet.

Ahhh, the kid test.
My late sister's children and my jr. aides, Sue &
Greg, are invovled in the NON-adult projects I
do; I will not put my niece & nephew in that
position!
But for my NON-mature rated items, they are
the judges. Their momma, my older sister, was
a darn GOOD judge of things. So are they.
Kid test is good.

I'm very choosy of what they watch though. I refuse to show them Scarecrow episodes as they find his image frightening, although they've asked to watch it.
But I love the fact that the series appeals to all ages. I was 12 when it came out and I loved it. It's great to know there's a new generation of fans for the series. They also love Justice League as well. My little cousins, Tofu and Wonton (their nicknames), love Batman, Flash, Red Tornado, and lots of the villains, like the Penguin, which they call "The Penguin Man".

Same here, Diane.
There are things I FORBID them to see, until they are adults!
Their father, Kate's widower and his new g/f Stephanie feel
the same way, too, Di.
There are plenty of anime & Disney shows we allow, plus PBS
and National Geographic shows, some I find boring, but Kate
liked them, so their pappy and their auntie DO put on
GOOD shows for them.
Of course, I have a copy of EVERY 1960's Adam West Batman
show, they will see that every weekend, a few shows,
of course, Sue & Greg enjoy the MINSTREL shows,
Katie & I did a CID pic of Batgirl & Robin, where the jr. Bats
were 'cooking' for Minstrel and a Cooking lady.

Oh, I love the 60s Batman show! It's what I got me into Batman. It would come on at 3:30 every weekday at channel 27. I would run home as fast as possible to catch it. One of my lasting memories of the show is when I electrocuted my brother, who was two at the time, because I thought a Batcave was under my house!
I went to Bat-Con in Dallas and got to meet Adam West, Yvonne Craig, Julie Newmar, and Frank Gorshin. I got to meet up with Frank personally afterward. A month later, I died. His Riddler was one of my first crushes!

Measuring the character by heads. I accidentally used the proportions I use for my character in GMD. I've been drawing them for so long. I didn't realise I did it to the humans in this drawing...which is why they look all out of wack.

You know I noticed yesterday what was seriously wrong with this drawing. I couldn't put my finger on it first, but I finally found it. I used "mouse proportions", not "human proportions". DUH! It's so obvious and it took this long to notice! I feel so stupid that I want to crawl into fetus position in a dark hole for a week...

You still did a good job with it.
I am about to explore doing 3D artwork, thanks to Rinna-L, who spent Thanksgiving
with my family, Diane. Our fave customer, known here as D. Commish, has asked me
to do it for Katie...he was there from the start for the Williams Sisters Art Studio
as our best patron and his wife Suzeanne our personal friend.
"There is still a Williams sister in the business, Sharon. Kate would have done it."
he said...so, it's time for this cowboy's daughter to throwdown and try it.
Hope y'all had a Thanksgiving, Di.
Btw, my Lions LOST. .

Rinna/Sharm helped set it up on my PC while we were getting the meal ready.

a long time, too, Di.

(About D.?
A long-time customer of both Kate & I.

Well, I, at least, know that's football. Dallas Cowboys don't deserve to be bragged about either.
3D is different from 2D. I've dabbled enough in 3D to know that it's not a medium I particularly like, but I can stumble through it if I HAVE TO. Although, I prefer NOT TO.
DAZ is Poser. It's limited, but it's a great beginning modeller's program with an easy interface. Texturing and lighting in that thing is kinda BLECH. Still, it's a good starting point.

Thanks for your input, Di.
But it's my chance to be an artist.
I have seen others who do it.
I've commissioned another DA member, CAPTAIN ZAMMO by name,
to do me some work.
We both have Texas roots.
Y'all got to get on a horse before you can ride the critter.
So, that's me and that's the horse I'm gonna mount.
It's DAZ/Poser, then, right.
Btw, 8-4 is decent compared to 0-12, Diane.
Your Dallas Cowboys are 8-4;
my Lions, 0-12.

Chance to be an artist? You're already an artist. It's just a different medium. Sometimes, it's trying to find the right style that fits you best.
Well, I still could care less if the Cowboys win or lose. I'm not going to keep track either way.
