Originally it was going to have Squeezeplay be shot in the back. I even drew that up in the rough version of the strip. But both Dave Newman and I thought it didn't work.
The decapitation came as a replacement for that. I think Dave Reynolds really made it work by making the tech spec meter zeroing out really obvious with his colours.

Hey. Thanks heaps for your comments everyone. It's been a while, I should have said something earlier. It was great to see that people enjoyed all the little sight gags. I'm especially pleased that people like the stealing-flowers gag.
Oh yeah -- thanks to Dave II for colouring it so it was nice and obvious the continuity between the flowers in the jar and the flowers in his hands.
