I never liked shockblast anyway.
But let us see G1 Shocky fight Animated Shocky.

Ought to have been a Highlander joke in there somewhere.

Cool. Reminds me a lot of the Kang saga in Marvel's Avengers books, where the character sought to wipe out all other timelines' versions of him.

Now I'm worried for Animated Shockwave. I liked him ... must have something to do with having the same VA as the original

Epic. But why the hell is Shockwave talking like Soundwave? And why am I the only one here who seems to have noticed this?

I have no idea I just enjoyed watching Shockwave shooting that bastard Shockblast.

Neat concept and a fun twist at the end. However, I don't really get WHY G1 Shockwave would be jumping from dimension to dimension killing his counterparts. That doesn't seem very logical...

It's not even his counterpart, is the silly thing. It's a guy who looks sort of like him and has a similar sounding name--but their backstories and personalities are nothing alike. He might as well kill Soundwave for having 'wave' in his name, no mouth, and dedication to Megatron.

Oh yeah, true. Shockblast was just a homage figure, nothing more. Although, he is a good enough substitute for Shockwave in my Classics collection til Hasbro wises up and makes a proper homage for Ubinverse/Classics.

So really, Shockwave's "inferior copy" statement is meaningless--I feel it only displays the inherent and juvenile bias of the writer.

JZLobo In reply to Seiberwing [2009-12-08 03:56:29 +0000 UTC]
Well they're still so much alike that most people just assume their dimensional counterparts anyway. I wouldn't call what the writer did juvenile.

Seiberwing In reply to JZLobo [2009-12-08 21:01:49 +0000 UTC]
That's like saying Cliffjumper and Bumblebee are alike--in fact they're /more/ alike, in terms of body structure they're almost identical, and I've yet to see Bumblebee shoot Cliffjumper for being an inferior copy. Shockblast doesn't even have the same altmode, he's a satellite. I only call it juvenile because it seems to have no other point than "G1 totally wins over that lame not-G1 show" fanwanking, when an idea like this could have had actual creativity.

Maybe he's trying to take over whole dimensions. He did mention a domination of some kind after insulting his now-dismantled counterpart.

Fact: G1 superior.
Logical conclusion: Inferior copies will be ERADICATED!
Seriously, this is mosaic is awesome. Artwork could is cool, although the first few panels seem very busy, the backgrounds a bit clunky. Not bad, just hard to focus on anyone thing. I suspect that is just due to the "battle damaged" and dingy look on everything.
The last part with G1 Shockwave is very clean though: Corpse in corner, bit of sparky behind the centerpiece of G1, background in background.
I dislike the style of the internal monologue of Shockblast, though not having watched anything of the character, I suspect that is simply accurate portrayal of his speech.
All in all, great Mosaic. Shockwave speaks truth!
(until Megatron shows up and whoops him!)

I do hope this is meant to be an actual serious piece, rather than 'G1>Energon, lol, watch the G1 guy blow up the Energon guy'. In theory this could be played straight, but the fact that Shockblast was taken down way easily than he should have been (really? He survives getting stepped on but a tiny zap kills him?) makes me suspicious.
You've got a punctuation error in the first panel, btw.

While it could be taken that way, and I hope its not gonna be "Shockwave visits al other Moive verse and kills everything not G1" I think Shockblast here is easily killed between the likely hood of having just been stepped on and thus in bad shape, isnt expecting his otherself to shoot him right out the gate, nor expecting his other self to be nuclear powered.

Just because Energon sucked doesn't mean G1 is better than ALL the other spinoffs. Beast Wars and Animated had FAR superior writing than G1.

G1 came first, will almost always trump out even better written shows just because of this little fact. I love BW, but do you remember the 'Trukk not Munky' crap that most elitists were toting at the time? Thankfully they've come around, but it's no easy transition.

To use an analogy, it's like making pancakes in the morning. That first one is always a "practice" one that you throw away or give to your dog.

If you see the first statement of G1 versus everything else, it was 'G1 anyone > all other continuities' as in Bumblebee > Hot Shot, Shockwave > Shockblast, etc etc. From what I've seen of Energon and the like (it's a trilogy right?) the characters were sad pathetic shades of overdone concepts and crappy animation models that merely slide across the screen to connotate movement.
Like it or not, that's all opinion ... I don't speak for all of TF fandom in this aspect. BW's Scorponok and Silverbolt were infinitely better than their G1 counterparts, but it wasn't until the revival of the TF comics has G1's 'spotlight' (pun intended) been shining brighter. G1 has and will remain for me, THE universe that comes first in anything TF related.

That's not necessarily true either. Lots of people (myself included) think that some of the Animated incarnations stand toe to toe with their G1 namesakes, if not eclipse them. (Personally I prefer Animated Starscream over G1. he actually had a plan instead of just whinging on and on.)

Animated to me is probably the one show that challenges G1 on a constant basis for domination of the game when it comes to TF material.
You know, big chins aside and all.

Yeah. Not too crazy about the animation aesthetic, but the good writing more than makes up for it.

First does not automatically mean best. Back in the 80s Transformers were written and treated as for children who they figured would be entertained by any old crap so long as it had robots in it. It wasn't until mcuh later on that the property began to be seen and treated as something more intelligent.

Energon isnt total horrid drabble. There was more then a few good concepts. But those balls were always dropped. Shockblast, wasn't Shockwave in anyway but look; but he was a rutherless warrior to start off with. Sixshot was pretty cool being sorta an evil Johnny 5. Demolishor was really interesting untill he was turned into a monkey. Tidal Wave was almost a force of nature till he went gay after his upgrade.
I'm the last to defend Energon, but I will support there were good ideas in it.
But even excluding Energon, I'd rather not see Ani Shockwave so easily. He was a pretty cool version. Even the Movie Shockwave from the games was pretty cool.

Shockwave > Shockblast is fairly easy to see, and not liking Energon or this comic is merely opinion.

I can't say that it makes very good writing, to dedicate an entire Mosaic just to your favorite character pwning a character/verse you like less. Look at how cliche and annoying Go-Bot-bashing has become.
