I don't blame poor Bumblebee for feeling like that at all. It's ironic that a young bot is having serious thoughts like this, but supposed "wise" leaders like Optimus may be almost oblivious to this.

it's sad how everyone's praising bee for a job well done but they're unaware of bee's hurt that he had to kill someone to do it, even if it was by accident or self defense.
another sad thing is that, yes, they would forget that they're all cybertronians instead of just those Decepticreeps and those Autoscum. and it makes the realization hit even harder once looking back and seeing just what they've done to each other.
poor bee, but excellent and thoughtful mosaic

Very deep indeed. It's the same as the expression, "to end a war, we must wage war."

I have a lot to learn about photo manipulation techs! Wowie!

I'm sorry, I just can't get behind the idea of Prime saying that a] Bumblebee wasn't an Autobot before this, and b] the taking of a life was not only needed, but okay to do.

BRAVO! Good points all around. I particularly love Bumblebee's reaction to Prime's comments and his statement on the last panel. Whether "necessary" to kill or not, it is still the taking of a life and should not be done lightly or easily.
Good to see at least one 'bot can see beyond the "cause" and "factions."
Deceptions are still Cybertronian.

Wonderful.

Bumblebee does a lot of non-combat functions and infiltration work, it makes sense he'd get praised for showy things more than his usual. Especially with what Prime said...ouch. That's really fucked up.

Being a soldier man myself I find this piece to be particularly thought provoking. I think perhaps maybe Bumbledees interepretation of the praise might be a little extreme (an instance of a successful mission rather than taking another life), but all the same it highlights that ultimately both sides are indeed taking lifes. Does the insistance it's for the right cause, and attempt to avoid death make the result alright? A question of whether the end justifies the means I guess, I wonder if Prime and his men woud look back and truly regret those lives lost or insist it was necessary?
Nice peace, thought provoking and well portrayed considering the medium of figures

Wow.
Bumblebee needs some serious loving right now, and not from the idiots at base.
Even Prime can make a mistake, and this is one of them.
C'mon, Bee.
Let's go grab us some ice cream.

I could imagine the Autobots congratulating Bumblebee like that, but I would never imagine him feeling that way about it. Of course when I watched the old cartoon, NOBODY ever died.

There is a sad true in this Mosaic. I like a lot the fact that you used the toys for this one and the Ark bg its a nice touch too. Instant fav! This is a wonderful Mosaic.

MugenSeiRyuu [2009-01-26 16:52:44 +0000 UTC]

Very dark and dramatic.

Are we sure that the other Bots are congratulating him for killing Skywarp? Or does he just think they do, while they are congratulating him for finishing an important mission, but he had to kill Skywarp in self defense to finish it?

Because otherwise it would be pretty OOC for Prime and some others.

Duke-of-Luns In reply to MugenSeiRyuu [2009-01-26 17:01:48 +0000 UTC]

A little from column A, a little from column B. I guess I never really thought of Prime congratulating Bee on taking out a Decpeticon as "out of character", because he's a general, and has been through countless battles. After all, what did Prime do when he first came online in "War Dawn"? He mowed down a slew of 'Cons!

My main inspiration here was that Bumblebee is not a traditional soldier, and doesn't want to take part in bragging about any kind of "kill record". Therefore, he takes offense to them congratulating him on a "job well done".

Also, it's not Skywarp that was killed, just a generic seeker.

MugenSeiRyuu In reply to Duke-of-Luns [2009-02-03 14:14:23 +0000 UTC]

Well, the guys mowed down by Prime seem to mainly consist of some drones.
So Prime is not a killer, but can be rather lethal. He often had the chance to kill Megs, but didn't.

Not Skywarp, just a generic Seeker. Kinda helps illustrate Bee's grief, he killed a nobody yeah, but he still killed something.

I'm sure his feelings would change if he
had Transformer children of his own to
protect from the heartless Decepticons
who would kill them for the sake of killing.

Isn't that what the Autobots are fighting
for in the first place? To protect those
who are in the path of destruction
because of the Decepticon's lust for power?

My hero's are being butchered.

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

Seiberwing In reply to ShaneNewville [2009-01-27 17:01:46 +0000 UTC]

Knowing that you need to kill doesn't make the killing any easier. I really don't think Bumblebee's distaste for bloodshed means that he's not devoted to his cause. He's got as much stake in this as anyone else, and I doubt he'd change because he had "Transformer children to protect". That's the whole point of this Mosaic, that he realizes the weight of what he did while his comrades don't.

Duke-of-Luns In reply to ShaneNewville [2009-01-26 13:19:49 +0000 UTC]

I see what your going for, and I agree. If push came to shove and somebody dies through use of self defense, that's one thing. Maybe that's what happened here.

However, Bumblebee is still reeling from the overall fact that he killed something, and being congratulated for it makes him sick to his stomach(or perhaps fuel processor). The other bots aren't necessarily "wrong" in their congratulatory remarks, maybe they do it among themselves all the time, but they are so entrenched in this millenia long war that maybe they forgot Decepticons are actual living beings.

well remember when JETFIRE and SUNSTORM died back in the Dreamwave days, he had quit the Autobots altogether. why IDW brought him back in without even the slightest bit of explanation is beyond me.

But this comic here pretty much reflects the same attitude he had back then.

Nice job.

JZLobo In reply to FrankORourke [2009-01-26 05:07:33 +0000 UTC]

I'm not sure what that has to do with this comic, but IDW and Dreamwave are completely separate continuities. One doesn't have any relevance on the other.

JZLobo In reply to FrankORourke [2009-01-26 05:42:40 +0000 UTC]

Nope, they just reused the deigns because a) they take a lot of work to design, and b) it would have been a shame to waste them.

JZLobo In reply to FrankORourke [2009-01-26 06:17:07 +0000 UTC]

What do you mean? Die hard fans know for a fact that Stormbringer and WWI have nothing to do with each other except for the reused designs. They're even set in completely different timeframes.

okay i agree *sigh* they pretty much rehashed the designs.

First of all, I like this style. Photocomics get a bad rap for being cheap and uncreative, but done right they can carry as much humor and depth as a drawn comic. (See "Insecticomics" for proof.)

Second... wow. This is powerful. Poor 'Bee... and he has a point. One that rings true for every soldier, not just a Transformer.
