Description The Revized version of the ACII xiphoid.
No, you're right this it isn't a full diagram. I've left out how this bit moves the blade out the front. This'll be a teaser but if your mechanically inclined you can probably imagine how this nifty piece can be fitted to a DAOTF or scissor-jack rig.

You're looking at a windable two position actuation mechanism I expect drives the unit. Short pull ejects/retracts the rest of the device (not pictured) with the aid of a windup flat/clockwork/power spring.
I knew that stupid key in all the concept art was for something...
This seems to make the most sense.

You may note that the pistol feature is missing..That part is a standalone unit that is worn over the blade unit but is not mechanically connected. I'm told it is an in-game upgrade for later levels different from the one pictured in much of the character art. I have the pistol add-on internals detailed here at this [link]

Abstract:
Ratcheting gear is the arbor that winds a power spring
Power spring is attached to a case drive wheel
Drive Wheel is allowed to turn a half turn by a Clockwork thingamabob (with two fingers to catch the drive wheel fins) and in turning pushes or retracts a push rod
Push rod actuates scissor jack OR DAOTF switch.

Pros: possible "hair trigger" ring pull length, single pull operates in or out motion based on current position of blade, viable for Scissor jack OR DAOTF, footage for gag reel when props guy forgets to wind up the unit

Cons: Clockwork (unless you don’t mind such intricacies), needs be wound up, find decent strength power spring may be difficult.

I had a closer look and then i could see the slight offset that you're talking about.
There's something that pop in my mind. The set is like : clockwork drive / spring ( in the middle) / charging geat because i can see some problems otherwise ( especially with the anti reversal )

I couldn't find the piece in all the shops that i found so i think i'll mold them, do you think that acrylic pieces can handle the strenght of the mechanism and the strenght of pushing something
in front of the blade itslef

In the first place i have to say that's a freaking good work ( for the mechanism and the blueprint which i think is kinda clear).
I think i understand how the whole set work but there is sme point that i've gess . I'm not quite sure so i'll try to explain what and if you can understand me ( english is not my first langage...) you'll could answer me .
- Do we need an extra piece outside of the box to actually "recharge" the spring ?
-How do you prevent the falling of the pushing rod ? ( i mean there's nothing to hold it )
I know this is stupid questions but i wanted to have the answer from the designer himself .
with your permission i'll try to build it ( if i can find the damn pieces )

For your first question
Yes, in the link to the concept art [link] there is a Key of sort that is intended to recharge the spring after it winds down.

To answer the second question:
Good question! I haven't illustrated this as best as I could have seeing as it's not quite noticeable unless you know about it. I've offset the connection point of the clockwork drive to the push rod; it's not centered. Because of the spring it wants to spin in one direction and because of the trigger catch it can't. Because of where the two connect, pushing or pulling will make the wheel want to rotate in the direction the trigger catch is preventing it from rotating or cause it to rotate ever so slightly against the spring but only to the zenith of the ark before the spring brings in back up against the catch.

what about a weighted ratcheting gear? like in self winding watches?

But then it wouldn't be game concept art accurate. [link] Wind up key is a necessity.

lol. you'd think the real Da Vinci would think of something like that. the self winding feature was in my design, but i was missing an effective two stage mechanism.

Hey, when is the other half of this going to come out? It's really interesting!

P.S.: release the blade is easy. Lock also. But retract, oh man...........

Hi!!! I have been your fan, since I saw your AC concepts for the first time. I have been trying to develop a mechanism myself, but once I'm not familiar with mechanisms or weaponry, that's became quite a puzzle. Your concepts gave me brand new ideas and stimulation. Thanks and I can't wait to see your full concept!!! Best regards.

O.o holy crap its nearly the same that i came up with for my hidden blade, (prop only but still used the same way) the only difference is uses two coil springs and wheels , its a bit more bulky but still works (it has two different strings to activate it ) i may have to barrow this if you wouldn't mine, and if i post it anywhere ( the Hidden blade prop ) ill post a link.
also , i will show you how i designed a wrist bow, its a similar concept as the blade but it just fires arrows instead of a blade. (i've made it already )

This is looking excellent! I may have to stea- err, borrow your designs.
Man, I was designing my own AC style hidden blade but it wasn't nearly as complex as this... If I can make my design neat enough for sane people to understand it then I will post it on dA, however it is humbled by this in comparison.....

Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the praise!
If and when you do borrow this as inspiration I'd like you to comment here again with a link to what you post so others and myself can see what can be done with this design.

Good luck with your design!
I look forward to seeing what you come up with.
