Description Here's the finished diagram-template-pattern-design-thingamajiggy of the hand guard of the Kingdom Key Keyblade~!

This was originally for my own cosplay, but I needed to get this up and available so my friend's mom could cut it out for me. =w=" Plus, haven't you noticed the mass of Keyblade tutorials, but not a single one had an actual template that you could just print out and use? .___."
Weeeeellllll.... Here's mine! I meant it for a 36-38" Keyblade, but I suppose it'd work for a 40" too, if you're tall.

This thing is as goddamn accurate as I could get it, and it looks pretty good to me.... owo"

You're allowed to use this template, on the grounds that you give credit to me. :3

A tip on printing this out, which I use: copy/paste the image into MS Word, put the zoom to 100%, then resize the image to 11"x8.5" so it'll print out the same size as mine.

Super late reply since this was posted 8 years ago, but thank you for this. I've been looking all over the web for some accurate measurements but most I found were estimates. Great job, friend!

Think you could do kairi's keyblade handles?

Hey man, your templates are amazing! I made a Kingdom Key myself and it was a lot easier using them.
I never would have been able to draw templates but then I luckily found yours

Hey guys, glad I could help! Sorry I couldn't make the whole printing-out part easier, though.
For more cosplay stuff and my other art, watch my new account !
I'm planning on uploading my Len headphone template, along with some Pokemon Emerald stuff. Not sure what else I have planned yet.

Random thing, but I hope you guys have had better luck than I at making your Kingdom Keys!
I actually haven't finished my own keyblade, even though I have almost all the cardboard cut out. I only have one half of the guard hot-glued on. OTL

Looks so great I'll use this! Also, how thick should I cut it out of wood? and how thick should the dowel be for the main blade?

CDSH In reply to KHCosplayah [2012-07-18 05:08:01 +0000 UTC]

Sorry for the late reply!
I'd eyeball it and make it at least 1" thick, but not thicker than 1 3/4" for sure! I used a 1 1/2" or 1 1/4" thick dowel, I think. I got mine from Home Depot and it was the one with blue ink on the end, if that helps.

I wanna cosplay another KH character... Riku was fail, but I could probably pull off Xion easily but I don't really like her...........

The print-out seems complicated pfft. Have you tried making a pdf? I might be able to help....

Xion was so easy! xD I found boots kinda like hers in my mom's closet (they're a size and a half too small, but I can still walk for... a few hours.....) but Roxas was straight-up fail for me. Twice. /cries

Sorry about the delay. I think I figured out how I'd pull it off, but can you give me some general measurements for some of the sections please?

Gahhhh too small shoes?! You crazy fuh-ool.

Oh. Twice, huh? *pat pat SMACK*

Wow, you made blueprints for your cosplay...not that I really know anything about cosplaying, but it seems like if you were to make your own, you would need to do something like this |D

If I were to cosplay I'd just buy the costume or something. I'm not so creative as to make my own clothes. Which is why i think this is pretty cool.

CDSH In reply to CrownedHarpia [2010-11-13 05:48:23 +0000 UTC]

People SHOULD do stuff like this for homemade cosplays, but not enough people do... That's part of why there's so many crappy cosplays. T___T" But, it IS really time-consuming. I haven't drawn anything blueprint-y in foreeever so this and the other one took me maybe 3 hours total... Not very efficient, eh? -__-"

I wish I could buy my cosplays, but quite literally everyone that I want to cosplay have some of the most expensive cosplays, as compared to other characters from the series. Not to mention, my mom doesn't let me buy stuff online. -.-"

But hey, thanks! ^-^ I try. (And often fail.) But I do try, ahaha...

CrownedHarpia In reply to CDSH [2010-11-15 03:29:06 +0000 UTC]

Well it only makes sense. You have to make some sort of blueprint or plan before starting something. Like in drawings, we determine what we're going to draw and we do guidelines to make a basic foundation for our characters.

Probably because those characters have a lot of stuff to go with them. Don't worry, one of these days you could have a job and do what you want with your money.

CDSH In reply to CrownedHarpia [2010-11-15 10:44:18 +0000 UTC]

...ahaha.... I still don't do guidelines... /guilty
Maybe I should film myself while I'm drawing. owo" It's actually pretty entertaining to watch while I'm talking to myself. I argue with myself a lot. xD;;;

But yes, blueprints and guidelines are normally very, very good, and also very, very scarce.

Truth be told, just about any cosplay is at least $50-ish, even the simple ones like Sasuke, Neku, Namine, etc. It's really hard (impossible, maybe) to find a quality, complete cosplay without going a fair bit above that price. :/
Hopefully my mom will let me sell stuff online soon; if she sees that my Keyblade looks good then she might let me sell it.

CrownedHarpia In reply to CDSH [2010-11-16 01:05:53 +0000 UTC]

Sometimes you never know you're doing it on film. XD Like you keep contradicting yourself in every sentence. XD

That's a lot of money for a costume. Well, I guess the material, accessories, and size accounts for that price. Still, without a job you'd have to scrape up whatever you have just for the cosplay you want, so it would be easier to just make your own.

And then you could sell whatever you make for money! XD
