The metaphor of Oz, a sundering of one world and falling into another. Sometimes we voluntarily jump into a set of new circumstances, other times a whirlwind picks us up and spits us out into something unfamiliar. The journey may be unpredictable, dangerous, painful, and world-shattering. But it can also be perspective-changing, a catalyst for growth, beautiful beyond compare, and an invaluable opportunity. If you want a brain, then feed your curiosity, search for those with answers. If what you seek is a heart, simply make time for others. And if you want to see courage, by all means look in a mirror. When the world hands you something awful, turn it into something worthwhile and inspiring. If you do this, upon returning from your journey there will be no place like home.

This is one of those rare rock-you-in-the-face-stab-your-brain-with-your-nose-bone works. I originally saw your remake of this. It's rare that a remake is better than the original, so with all due respect Travis, I'm glad I came back to the original.
I ended up re-watching Wizard of Oz this past summer, so after a long hiatus, the movie is still pretty fresh in my mind. When you review something you haven't heard or seen in a long time, you tend to pick up on little nuances, those subtle details that you might have previously missed.
In one sense, everything is laid out pretty straight forward: Dorothy, Toto, the farm house, and of course the yellow brick road. The poppies, clock and the witch are all cleverly intertwined, and this is where things get interesting. Considering the time period of this classic movie (1939), you've done an amazing job to bring it up to contemporary speed. The stylistic features could easily serve as a poster ready for a modern makeover.
The most significant achievement of this work lies within the element of color. That's the big difference between the remake and the original. The remake is simply too light and the chaotic mood (of the upper half of the work) is subdued in doing so. The juxtaposition of warms and cools brings forward the positive and negative energy associated within each predetermined area of the composition. Your application and range of the medium is pro, as is evident by way of your hard edges and opaque washes. The composition also reveals a progressive thought process as it appears to have been composed using the golden mean (leading to Dorothy's head.)
The use of transparency is paramount, as you are able to look through one object to view another, thereby creating all kinds of interest points as objects and figures overlap. The tornado provides a great spontaneous path that bridge both the form and the content. The shattered window glass provides us a wave of irregular shapes, the movement of which allows the eye appreciate the contrasting geometric bricks below. It' a great use of the repetition principle.
I would argue that artistic critiques should be honest, but also helpful. I've only done about 1/2 dozen of them so far, but this will be the first one that's worthy of a full score. I have nothing else to add because the elements, style, purpose and influences all speak for themselves. The visual language is simple, but anything but ordinary: Things in Oz are strange and beautiful, but Dorothy just wants to get back home.

No Problem! It'd be cool if you made a version that was based on The Wiz!

I grew up with the Oz books. I like your reinterpretation. And your words are simple and clear. May I ask how large is this painting?

It does hurt my eyes to look at this, but one thing I really do like about this piece is how you have a classic film a different perspective of things. I guess it changes the atmosphere that is in the original movie, and it's so well drawn to, I like how Dorthy is just a small speck in the background as her house flies into nothingness.
The glass shattering is what really caught-and dazzled-my eyes.
My guess is it's Kansas breaking away because Dorothy is now in another world.
Wonderful job, I can see you put forth much effort Keep up the good work
