Another print I did for this year's Cleveland ConCoction. (Last year's can be seen here !) The theme this year is "Fantasy", and since Cleveland is also the home of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, this seemed like a fun mash-up. Eventually I'll do another non-show specific one to sell at other cons, though a part of me almost hates to lose the building in the back.Related content

So, with the one-armed drummer, I'm guessing they're playing Def Leppard? Rock of Ages would be pretty dope from this group.

Oh man, one of the surprisingly tricky things early on with this one was deciding who would be playing what instrument. (Much like how I imagine real bands often go, everyone kinda wanted to be the front-man/lead guitarist.) The Monty Python Black Knight/Def Leppard connection was the easiest, most organic decision. It was one of those things that came in a sudden moment of inspiration, and I ended up patting myself on the back for it for the rest of the day. lol
And funny enough, I had the same axe pun in mind but for Conan, which is why I tried to make his guitar look a little more deadly. At least as far as references used, Like sort of got stuck with the bass. (If the Black Knight was the easiest to place, Link and Frodo were the most difficult.) The main Easter egg for him was that I did try to use the basic color scheme of his ocarina.

Huh. With the blue and white/silver, I assumed it was his Master Sword. If you wanted to mimic the ocarina, you might've gone keytar instead - both involve similar(ish) finger movements along the instrument. Or, y'know, like an electric ocarina would've been hilarious and (maybe) badass.

I didn't even think about the Master Sword. Come to think of it, between that, the ocarina, and the Hylian Shield, they did have a bit of a blue/silver motif going. And a keytar would have been great.
And not totally related, but I feel like mentioning, I actually really wanted to put in Zelda instead of Link and have her playing her harp. I ultimately went with Link because I figured he was slightly more iconic to general audiences and would sell better. It's a shame, though, because I really dig certain versions of Zelda's design.
