Description
Here's a fun exersize that almost anyone on DA can do, even if you don't normally consider yourself an artist!Heres what you do: Draw a box... then color it to death!
Notice I didn't say what kind of box, or what the box is... I didn't even say it need to be rectangular.
...
That simple, and very loose ended...
The point of the exersize is to renforce the importaince of Fun in drawing, something That becomes vital if you wish to progress in art, expecially if you plan to do it as a profession. (Relative statment from ~ amade )
It also renforces creativity, as you can add to the box anything you desire! (jewlry, holes, characters, scenes, planets...)
Most importaint: Have fun with it! XD

Actually, when you take art seriously or have it as a profession you better have fun with it or you'll go nowhere, as stressed by my college principal.
True enough, those who see assignments as a drag are having a hard time acieveing great things. I'm gonna use F1 to as a comparison as I can't find anything else to use to describe this: To the uninitiated, people who watch F1 and know nothing about it will find it mind-numbing to watch. But others who know and want to know more about F1 they'd do anything to not miss a single GP in the season. The excitement lies in knowing how it all works, what's happening and being able to comprehend the struggle each team and driver have to go through in each GP.
The same goes for art (and most of anything else). I definitely wouldn't have found it to be more entertaining if I never learnt about art principles, trick and techniques, etc... "So what if Kadinsky can draw a few simple shapes?" a person not versed in art would say. "Any kid with a crayon can do the same" he'd say again. So what makes Kadinsky's art aesthetically beautiful? If you know why and if you understood the process, the conceptualisation behind such works wouldn't art be more entertaining? More fun?
Yes. Draw, doodle and sketch. Even with the simplest things you can have fun with it. But don't draw it simply because you have to. Draw it with some meaning. If not, put your emotions into it or express something with your box. The first thing in art (unless you're doing advertising and needs to please your stubborn clients) is to first be able to please yourself with your creations before you go ahead and please others. If the given task isn't up to your taste, then it's up to your creativity to make it interesting and fun.
Sorry I had to start off on a long rant but something ticked off in my head when I read "... the imortaince of Fun in drawing, something that can be overlooked as you start to take art seriously, or as you do it as a profession."
To a certain extent, it can be true... But only if you're creating art for sake of creating it.
Unless you're into Dadaism, I hope people would draw with more purpose instead of just having a desire to create something people can admire. You can tell that I ain't ever gonna end up in adverising!

Sure. Go ahead.
Just a note though: I was worried that your statement could be misleading, even though you meant do good and help others have fun with art.
Sorry if I was a bit blunt and offensive.
