Description After about two minutes before this picture was made, at Canary Wharf in London, I was aproached by two police officers who started to demand why I'm taking pictures and where I'm from. When I said Ireland. They asked that I show them some ID, I told them I don't have any, and said I'm tourist and I didn't think there were any laws about taking photos in public. They just said you can't take photos here. Strange how the 20 people I saw with camera phones could snap away and I can't.
I continued on shooting whatever the fuck I felt like after they left.
I should mention that I had only a few hours sleep, and still half pissed from the night before.

It was my last day in London, and marred what was an otherwise nice little trip.

Hasselblad x-pan. 45mm + Orange filter goodness.
Ilford delta 400. Dev in xtol.

That was pretty unfair for you, but you were at least brave enough to take more shots! I respect your courage.

I like the lines of the building, and the way you framed it gives it the illusion of being longer somehow. The passer-by also gave a sense of liveliness, even though he's the only one in the shot. Wonderful!

Great photo. I laughed at the story aswell.
"Where are you from?" "Ireland."
Only thing that would have freaked them out more is if you said you were from afghanistan, or Leeds!
I was chucked out of the underground there, as me and a friend were taking a couple of wide angle perspective pics of the escalators with nobody on them, as it looked a little bit cool cool.

The security guy didn't take too kindly when he said, DON'T TAKE PICTURE HERE! NO TAKE PICTURES! and then took a picture of him

Gotta love those attention-gathering SLRs, eh?

I had a similar experience trying to take a shot through some archways (a corridor type shot) at a courthouse and actually had to give up my nearly full roll of film. I was likewise quite upset...

But look at the bright side, you got a great capture for all that hassle! I'm loving how the light reflects off of those windows; just beautiful!

I shot this with a Rangefinder? And battered and bruised one at that.

I think by law you can't sacrifice a roll of film, although I don't know about courthouses. I'd probably let them handcuff me unless it was the start of the roll.

Well I just didn't want to cause any more trouble, and I figured the guard would just let me go if I gave him the film. All he really did was ask for my ID and tell me that, apparently, I have to file for permission to photograph the county buildings like the courthouse.

Personally I think the world has become just a little too paranoid...

Awesome shot. Love the light...

I've never had that problem in London.. Probably because I don't tend to take pictures of the landmarks :L

But yeah, great shot. So glad you ignored them..

Happens to me everytime I shoot a building in this city that happens to have an embassy in it. And jeez...as profiling remains illegal, you'd think even beat cops would be more discreet than that. I'm glad you kept on shooting. Great shot.

you'd get a better response if you were shooting film, and noting your exposures in a notebook!

Delta 400 is film? But yeah a note book would certainly make me look more dodgey.

with numbers and places it would gain a lot of attention, i remember a fellow deviant getting harassed for that about a year ago.

cool photo.

well, that's the fear they planted into peoples hearts.

as if a terrorist would have to take a photo of a building he wants to blow up...

Yes you'd think a future bomber would use a convient camera phone rather than a specialised panoramic one.

great shot man, lovely tones to the pavement.

I've never been stopped around there, perhaps it's the old 'fancy camera = professional = excuse to charge some sort of fee' cobblers.

Just ignoring them is indeed the way forward.

Yes in Paris a Prague they are already starting to introduce fees and copyright practices for public places. Expect such things from the EU in the future.

Yeah it's with the panoramic 65mm camera, they couldn't really provide me with an actual reason for stopping me. Perhaps being a paddy in a sensitive area.
