the engines were in the outrigger pods, and the front of the nose opens like a clamshell to load/unload cargo

Possibly one of the ugliest helos ever. Did you ever see the 'Skycrane' S-60 prototype using the Mohave's engines and transmission?

Kamov has always had an interesting counter rotating rotor system. Those are pretty advanced helicopters.
