BEGINNINGS 1998 - 2000
The obvious downside to one-shot characters tends to be a limit in points of reference. DEVCON, fortunately, was featured to such an extent that getting a feel for how he looked was a relatively forgiving task. I was never truly happy with my first attempt, which suffered as a result of my lack of ability and the usual shoehorning into the 32x32 format. The second displays improved prowess in drawing curves, which helped a bit, but still left quite a few things to fix.
SECOND WIND 2008 - 2011
During a productive stretch in the spring of 2008, I took him in a direction from which I have since never really strayed. Though his design is far less angular than most Autobots' I find him appealing and that quality has always made me work a little harder at capturing his likeness. I was happy enough with that version that the next was only a colour refinement. Nevertheless, the need to expand and retouch remained clear and 2011 brought him still closer to satisfaction. Add one more go for scale and the ultimate goal has been achieved!
