BEGINNINGS 1999 - 2001
A lot of late-night work went into the Throttlebots, as witness how work on ROLLBAR started late on January 18, 1999, and finished in the wee hours of the next morning. ROLLBAR is another example of how using the comic and TRANSFORMERS: UNIVERSE profile was necessary for reference, but also caused me to give him the wrong colours. The richness of his details combined with the lack of cartoon references made him the most difficult of the Throttlebots to do; I could not seem to make that arc on his forehead look natural for anything in the world. It looked more like it was slapped on him with sticky glue.
SECOND WIND 2008 - 2009
He began to look better during the first wave of renovations, mostly because my understanding of how simply it was sometimes possible to render a convincing figure. I was able to "transpose" three-quarter-angle shots into portrait angles and that helped me here. The TV series showed next to nothing of his face, so the colour tones were necessary to improvise. Trying again for the eighth time, I paid closer attention than ever to his comic book depictions and hope to have made it to the final shot.
