The sketch had been sitting around since the beginning of summer, yesterday I decided to have some fun with ink.It's got six limbs plus wings. Clearly an insect.

Look at loads of wings, different types of wings. Keep in mind that bat wings and bird wings are anatomically different. Look at birds in real life, if you find a dead bird, study its wings. Is there a natural history museum close to where you live? See if you can find stuffed birds with spread wings there. Look at flying birds in slow motion.
I'm assuming that you are talking about bird wings. The skeletal structure in them, when simplified, is remarkably similar to a human arm, you just need to stick feathers on. Thinking of that you can assume that the wings bend and move in the same way as human arms do.
Here's a pretty extensive tutorial on the subject.
There's no substitute to just drawing loads and loads of wings. If your old drawings look crappy to you, it's usually a sign you are improving. If something you draw right now looks bad to you, try to identify what's wrong, and remedy it in the next drawing.
