Description Postosuchus kirkpatricki
Named by Sankar Chatterjee, 1985
Diet: Carnivore (Prey included the dicynodont Placerias, early dinosaurs such as Coelophysis, Chindesaurus, and Tawa, aetosaurs such as Desmatosuchus and Typothorax, other archosauriforms such as Trilophosaurus and Dromomeron, cynodonts, and metoposaurs. It may have also been a scavenger)
Type: Pseudosuchian archosaur (Rauisuchid)
Size: 13 to 16 feet (4 to 5 meters) long and 660 lb.
Region: North America [Texas (Post's Quarry, Texas is what gave its name), New Mexico, Arizona, and North Carolina USA]
Age: Late Triassic (221 to 203 million BC; Norian to Rhaetian)
Episode: New Blood
Info: It may look like a dinosaur, due to its deep, robust skull similar to a Tyrannosaurus rex's, have legs tucked under the body, and walking bipedally on two hind-legs recent studies show, Postosuchus was a relative of modern-day crocodilians and its an example of convergent evolution, when unrelated species share similar features and niches in similar environments. With an armored plated body, long legs built for running, an acute sense of smell, a mouth full of razor-sharp teeth, and powerful jaws designed to withstand a high force bite, Postosuchus was one of the alpha predators of Late Triassic North America, at the top of the local foodchain millions of years before large, advanced theropod dinosaurs replaced the rauisuchids as the dominant predators after the Triassic-Jurassic Mass Extinction event.

Anyone else felt so sad when she is dies and gets eaten by the Coelophysis in the end? For me, is one the saddest moments in the series.

Is the bottom one the accurate remake and the top one is an outdated version?

The only creature on the planet she fears is another Postosuchus.

Aren't the front legs of Rauisuchids supposed to be slightly shorter than the hind legs?

It`s interesting how the advancement in natural science is rapidly changing our views on prehistoric creatures. In New Blood it`s specifically stated that "Postosuchus was too front heavy to walk on 2 legs",but apparently that`s not true anymore.

Yeah, because science never stops changing as we make new discoveries and so forth!

Felt sorry for the poor female that was gored and then mauled by the Coelophysis. Pity such strange and beautiful lineages like Synapsids, Crocodylimorphs, Mesonychids and Raiusuchians dont have much spotlight in media.

I always thought rauisuchians were quadrupedal.

Besides, it doesn't make them less fast than how they are.

They could probably switch between the two.
But yeah, either way they are quick.

Now THIS does Postosuchus justice!

The WWD one was so slow, loud, and stupid.

How do you know he was not loud and slow. Also reptiles are pretty stupid.

acepredator In reply to hotwar696 [2017-09-11 21:25:47 +0000 UTC]

A) being loud and slow makes zero sense for an ambush predator (if Postosuchus was an ambush predator and not one that chased down prey

B) read up more

I can see you're still preaching about how terrible the WWD Postosuchus is.

If only you know the whole of him...

Strikerprime In reply to Jdailey1991 [2015-12-06 21:35:25 +0000 UTC]

I may not know the truth or the whole of Postosuchus.

But I do know that there's no point in complaining over how it was so inaccurately portrayed in a series that aired over 15 years ago! Why do you bother pestering over something rather insignificant?

Jdailey1991 In reply to Strikerprime [2015-12-07 00:35:54 +0000 UTC]

I meant the whole of acepredator's nonsense.

Acepredator's nonsense? What are you talking about?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Jdailey1991 In reply to Strikerprime [2015-12-07 00:57:12 +0000 UTC]

It wasn't just Postosuchus he was preaching WWD against.  Far from it...

Strikerprime In reply to Jdailey1991 [2015-12-07 01:06:37 +0000 UTC]

Who's he? Can be more specific?

TrefRex or that other guy's Postosuchus pic that you also commented on?

You said this to

"I can see you're still preaching about how terrible the WWD Postosuchus is."  He hates EVERYTHING Walking with.

Strikerprime In reply to Jdailey1991 [2015-12-07 02:36:33 +0000 UTC]

Ohhhhhhh.... I get it now.

I'm terribly sorry. I accidentally mistook you for being acepredator, given your mutual hatred towards how Postosuchus was portrayed in WWD. My mistake.

Wow, a little harsh how he hates everything Walking With. What'd those documentaries ever do to him?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Jdailey1991 In reply to Strikerprime [2015-12-07 10:14:31 +0000 UTC]

Why don't you ask him?

Strikerprime In reply to Jdailey1991 [2015-12-07 13:08:39 +0000 UTC]

Considering how he pretty much exploded on how much he hated how the Postosuchus was simply portrayed on WWD, I think I'll pass.
