Description I'm really in love with this handsome boy! His wings are made with apoxie sculpt over wire mesh, and his hair is a blend of nylon colors called snowflake, blizzard, and arctic frost!

This is very beautiful wing work. I have only just started using Apoxie sculpt after working with Sculpey, and I admit I find it frustrating so far. It always seems to be so sticky. When I try to do details, it sticks to my tools even when dipped in water, and it sticks to my fingers as well. Do you have any tips to get it to be less sticky? I have tried waiting till it dries some, but since you only get a short window of time to work with it, that makes things really tough.

T__________T poor big brother pony being used as a custom.

He's very pretty. Surprising, too, because there used to be a well-known pony customizer in the community with the name Icefeather, whose unicorn pony persona had almost this exact same design. Do you remember her or was this one of those amazing coincidences?

Actually, it's a coincidence! I don't think I remember a customizer named Icefeather, I've been around since about 2005 but maybe she was before that? I just picked the color scheme based on the newest Dollyhair colors, the symbol because I was house-sitting from someone with chickens at the time and feathers were flying everywhere, and the name just seemed to make sense after that!

Wow, he's amazing! His wings are great and I totally love the feathers of his symbol!
Did you sculpt every feather of the wings single and then put them together or how did you work the wings?

Thanks for all the comments! When I do wings, I make a wire mesh frame that has the feathers cut out and everything, and then I start at the top and just do a few feathers at a time, working downward.

Ooo - I like how you did the wings, and the coloring is awesome!

What kind of mesh have you been using, anyway? I started some merpony's using 1/4" chicken wire (smallest I could find!), but the Apoxie went right through so I would up with a solid tail. Am trying out mesh window screening, but haven't re-done any tails yet.

The stuff I use is a very fine mesh that I buy at Michael's, sorry I forget the brand name! I've also heard that you can get a fine mesh in the plumbing section at hardware stores for cheaper, but I haven't tried that yet. In the meantime, for a merpony you might try filling a mesh frame with tinfoil, and then sculpting on top of that. Good luck!

What, the stuff they sell for paper machΓ© type projects? I'll have to keep that stuff in mind.

Yeah, I heard about the tinfoil thing, but only *after* I started work on a few. D'oh.
