Description
They were the first characters conceived in my canon. That is until I started creating more characters and overlapping their stories.
The major theme for these bears is 'warmth'. All of them are predominantly three shades of warm color. I want them the audience to know that they're very warm characters with good intentions. Though I have to make sure they're distinctly different shades to make them easier to tell apart. The rule of three is key to characterizing them. Three distinct personalities and appearance is what will make these characters successful. They're still underdeveloped in terms of personality and back story, which is something I'll address sooner or later.
Papa Bear - He's pretty much the typical grump with a heart of gold. I'll redefine 'typical' soon enough. I intended him to be a blue collar/construction worker with jeans. But I've been using blue jeans way too often so I decided to give him khakis. He has a darkest shade of the warm color with signifies his less warm personality. His way of expressing affection is more subdued. He'd rather express himself through action than words, hardly creases a smile, and can be distant at times. Though it doesn't hide the fact that he cares for others.
Mother Bear - She's the one I had most fun with. I made her some sort of diva with a feathered hat to go with it. Out of the three bears, she's the most hardworking. She goes out and takes many different jobs including house keeping, event planning, fund raisers, and community service projects. Her intelligence, charisma, and versatility makes her a role model to all of her peers. What she lacks is brute strength which is supplemented by her husband. Her shade of red signifies her passion for her work and her family.
Baby bear - He's that spunky kid who's brighter than he looks. He often notices things most people overlook and he's often the first to discover anything of interest. For example, he'll be the first to find a clue whenever he's involved in a mystery. Sadly, being a child, most adults don't take him seriously. With his parents working long hours, he's often by himself. This makes him prone to feeling lonely. He has the brightest shade of warm colors to signify his often underestimated brightness and childlike innocence.

Nice characters. I like how Mother Bear is only wearing a hat and that her breasts are slightly visible under her fur, where as her husband is fully clothed, it flies in the face the horribly engrained sexism in our society. I also like her hat. Baby bear is cute but from the description he sounds to old to still be in nappies.

Thanks. You might be onto something there, especially with how papa bear is wearing clothes while mama bear isn't. The funny thing is that I've never conscious about that comparison till you point it out. Though since Mama bear's breast is fully covered in fur, I thought it would get past the 'radar'. After all, animalsΒ :iconajislisteningplz:Β 'don't normally wear clothes'. Though it's harder to do that in today's society isn't it?Β
Yeah, baby bear is a character I haven't took that much time to develop. I think he's probably gonna be redesigned.

You're welcome. Since being through headlong into a world of feminism, tarns-genders, and un-average sexual orientation by way of the Brony-dom I've started noticing a lot of stuff like that, though Sonic really helped to point out this perticular problem long before FiM was thing.

I remember the old days where politically correct wasn't such a big deal.

Oh I don't care much for political correctness, I just wish society would shake of its prejudice roots a bit faster.

The way I see it, it's something that won't go away completely. Without prejuduce, there won't be anything prejudice to fight against. Same way that we can't have good without the bad. Of course, when prejudice involves hurting and killing, that's when we have a problem.

This would make a really cute movie, or at least an adorable short film.

"...often notices things most people overlook..."
...like that one time he noticed that this one girl basically sabotaged the entire house?
