I'm starting off uploading a backlog of characters with my favorite, Adhara. This was the first one I did in an attempt to refresh all of my characters and as such some things have changed (difference arm wings and different wing hands) since then but for the most part this is current. Wind Gliders are a very personal species of dragons to me and the normal type is very bland, but my group of misfits stole my heart.

Adhara is the only Electric Storm Glider. She’s close to 40 foot tall, 195 from nose to tail tip, and with wingspans of ~300 and ~280.

Wind Gliders are space dragons. They’ve got four wings and lots of fans and can fly for days on end and travel between planets. How, I don’t even know where to start other than “they’re dragons of course they’re magic."

Her age is up in the air, as her home planet’s cycle is different than the one she currently lives on, but she’s young. Somewhere around mid-20s for her kind even if that could be a couple decades elsewhere.

Regardless, Adhara’s had a rough life even if it’s been short. She had at the start of her life been a Minor Wind Glider, the smallest subspecies of gliders. She is now around the size of the largest and still growing. Her parents and their clan had been run out of their territory and off the planet and Adhara barely made it- she and her brother were still hatchlings and at that age could hardly handle long distance space travel even if she was aided by her parents.

Upon arriving at this new planet, Adhara was separated from her parents and her sibling. To this day she doesn’t know where they ended up and she never had a chance to try and find them. Shortly after landing, she was captured by some rather unethical people, and Adhara doesn’t know how long she spent trapped in the labs. Try as she might to escape, it wasn’t until much later that she was strong enough to get out of there and by then the genetic changes were already taking place.

Turns out, gliders are rather ‘malleable’. Her genetic code was easy to manipulate and change, and since she was still so young the edits took quickly. Her eyes went from a light gray to bright yellow to purple as she first developed electrical powers, and then a form of telekinesis. By the time she broke out with a handful of other creatures from the labs, her crest and ridge had turned yellow and that same yellow was starting to stain the leading edge of her primary wings.

Gliders are black and white. Some have patterns on their wings, but all of them have black membranes with white tips. The crest and ridge membranes can have either color, and most share a typical body pattern- black mask and underbelly, white body and black stripes in varying amounts. The color shift was terrifying and only got more intense.

Further changes kept happening even without exposure to the lab. The bony spikes of her ridge thinned out as they went down her back, the ends of them as sharp as her claws and containing a terrible sort of toxin. Her wings became more and more vibrant, the second pair going from an orange and blue gradient to bright stripes and spots.

By this point, Adhara refers to herself as an Electric Storm Glider. She doesn’t fit the molds anymore for regular gliders now, both in size and color as well as general living- gliders can manipulate wind to stay gliding, Adhara can do that and so much more. She’s the only one of her kind and hope it stays that way.

Adhara made it a goal to stop experimentation like the ones she went through. There are at least four other known gliders that went through it after she did, all of which she helped rescue and are part of her new pack, a family of misfits that range from an exile half-glider king to the resident Time deity and her partner- a reaper, a wayward engineer and a night carrier (a relative of the gliders) that most think is just there because he’s bored.
