Description Gixus, demon prince of rust and ruination. Patron saint of things that degrade into hatred and failure. Gixus is a kind of priest, heading up his own twisted church, founded on the belief that, when all good things crumble to dust, the universe will know eternal peace, because there will be no light to breach the perfect darkness. His work at converting the legions of hell was slowed when, eons ago, he lost his lower jaw. If he were ever to reclaim it, allowing him to use his persuasive voice, the threat he poses would increase tenfold.
Gixus is an old character that I invented back in high school. He's changed very little since then. I don't really use him in any of my major, ongoing projects, but he's always there. This drawing nearly killed me. I haven't redrawn something so many times in years. I just couldn't get happy with the pose, and finally settled on this. Even the inlay, again inspired by Doom Patrol/Y the Last Man covers, went through numerous mutations until I finally settled on this. The point is, it's done, and I don't have to work on it any more. For now.
The inking on this piece was relatively experimental for me. I used a combination of nib pen and quill, technical pens and a sharpie maker for the larger areas of shadow. I'm more or less happy with how the shadow areas turned out. Doing all the tiny details on Gixus' body was maybe the most fun of this piece. I decided to leave the inlay un-inked, preferring to have him stand out all the stronger against it, since he does overshadow it, I didn't want him to blend into it. I'm pretty happy with the pencilling, really. I haven't really done serious pencilling like that in a long time. I used HB and 2B, and a terrycloth rag for smudging. It works great, really.
Gixus is the original creation of Tristan Tolhurst and may not be copied or duplicated without express permission.

For the lack of a better word; it's truely inspiring.
Reminds me of a main character of the novel series I'm working on...

Well, if you ever need character images, I'm always happy to lend a braincell or two and some time. Thanks very much, though. I'm glad you like him.

First of all: The level of detail you draw into your character and layouts is still awesome. It brings allot of ... how to put it ...... physical presence?? to your characters.

But the amount of story behind your characters still amaze me. Example: having a missing jaw is "common" among drawing of nasty things, but the fact that yours has a story behind loosing it and maybe getting it back?!

we wantz it ...... we shallz have itz ..

the details oh lord the details *dies*
