Description
This piece almost killed me. This was the biggest project I had all semester long. It probably took close to 80 hours. But man, I don't know if I've ever done something I've been so happy with when it was done. I had such a strong story in my mind with this pieceThis project began with a pair of live models whom I used as references. From there, I found some reference photos of Antarctica, as well as a beach in Norway and a mountain temple in Tibet. I got a lot of inspiration from H.P. Lovecraft and Mike Mignola. From there, I used brushes, staedtler and micron pens of all shapes and sizes, quill pens and sharpies to render the final image. The original is quite large, 20x26, and what we have here is the reproduction that was actually submitted to the teacher. I've attempted to photograph the original, but I'm still working out the fine points of my at-home photo studio. If I can get a better version of this picture, I'll post it in it's place. As it is, this is what I came up with.

Thanks I just wish the scan had turned out nicer. Or that the photograph had turned out at all

Wow, impressive. It's very surreal. I don't think I could take a whack at interpreting it, though.

The important thing is that you try. Or at the very least that the drawing leaves you with a little lingering dread. That works for me, too.
Thanks for your support!

This is a beautiful piece of art. It has an unearthly, eerie atmosphere to it, which is mostly dictated by the "woman's" figure in the foreground, by her eyeless face and the solemness of her posture.
Yes, one could sence Lovecraft from a few miles.
The shading is just crazy, considering all the detail put in the work it's mind-boggling, every little rock has a texture, depth and feel to it.
Superb.
It reminds me not only of Mignola, but of Escher too. And these too - they clearly have a story behind them. It's great to look at a picture and think about to storyline to it.

Wow. Thanks so much! I really appreciate the support.
Also, I'm a big fan of Escher so if some of his influence crept into this piece I wouldn't be surprised.
Thanks again!
