Hey everyone!
It's been a good long while since I've submitted anything, and this is a piece that's near and dear to my twisted little heart. Here we have one of my original characters. I've been doodling this guy on my desk for the better part of the last year of my illustration program and what with it being October, there seemed to better excuse to exhume this little guy.
Here we have the Postal Gourd himself: Pumpkin Johnson! Basically, I wanted to make the most ridiculous action hero type character who was still a teensy bit of a badass. Also, I've always liked pumpkin-headed creatures. Don't ask why, I just have. I've had so much fun drawing this character.
The illustration took two steps. The graphite and brush pen part of the illustration took about an hour during one of my coffe shop outings, and the photoshopping took about four hours, doing maybe an hour a night before my computer decided it didn't have enough memory to deal with my creativity. I used a very slap-dash approach to the photoshop. The final image had about six layers after merging close to a dozen others along the way. The color is done between about three layers with a couple of glazing layers on top. I tried to stick to a fairly traditional style when it came to the digital painting. It was a fun approach. It really felt like experimentation. I still like my traditional mediums, though.
