Actually, magic normally reflects the colour of the pony's cutie mark. Think of Twilight, Rarity, Celestia, and even Cadence.
Some don't, like some background ponies and Luna, though that's only because background ponies aren't given much thought and Luna's cutie mark is white.
Some are the colors of eyes though, like Flim and Flam.
