Description

Well, felt like doing another “Phantom Island” for this next POD cover, in this case, a version of the popular “St Brendan’s Island.” It was often considered to be a far western Canary Island, and believed in – and looked for – a lot longer than you’d expect, given people were all over the rest of the Canaries.

The basic shape is based on its appearance on a couple of old maps, and the twin mountains/volcanoes on an old drawing of it. And I kinda did it to match some modern maps of the other Canary Islands.

Then, feeling frisky (and having found a translation web page for it) I decided if this was an alternate world with a St Brendan’s...why not have it be one where there’s an alternate English alphabet. And there was Shavian, just aching to be used!
Mind you, since I was supposedly translating Spanish words – and Shavian is for English – I had to fudge it a bit and change some names. Of course, now I’ve discovered an actual Spanish to Shavian translator online...which would have been very useful.
