Damn, why did they put Collectors in ME3? I had hoped they went extinct in 2! (Not like I'll play ME3. It's just the principle of the thing.)

Since nobody replied you I can explain. The Collector base was a base of operations, and not exactly a homeworld. The Reapers kept large reserves of Collectors to use in the next invasion as they were very useful tools and excellent ground forces. The Collector base was (likely) just a small part of the Collectors themselves.
