Description
This is yet another pen and ink project. It is based on a figure I saw in a dream.I wanted to portray the image of beauty that so many women strive to become--shattered, in the mirror.
What the figure represents is the result of self-loathing and the constant torture that so many women around us endure.
It is what their bodies come to look like after their irrational physical conditioning to become what our society has come to call "Beauty", thus the title.
You'll also notice the slit wrist...this was my attempt at emphasizing the sadness and depression that accompanies a woman's inability to become an image of perfection that cannot be acheived.
I hope you guys can appreciate the meaning as well as the art.

I like,...alot.
Love the symbolism youve put in there, cant help point out that youve succesfully accomplished two other connected symbols too though.
The hair hiding the face, no face no identity, like all those many females who feel they need to look one way and end up all looking the same.
And the drain, painfully changing their bodies in hope to look a certain way, then the certain look changes, as does the world and those hopes go down the drain.
i like i like, with alllll the symbolism and a well doen piece of work i liiike.

I know someone like this, so it kinda hits close to home. It is heartbreaking to watch the way our culture values someone by how they look, and shames so many into the never ending trap of "must look better to be valued" that ends in what you show: shattered lives. Thanks for putting this up. (btw, the drawing is great too!)

I featured this in my journal after I got into a little argument with a most-likely-anorexic teen girl because she said this piece was cool. lol
I DO like it, but it's scary, because the message is all too real. And dA is loaded with teen girls that are anorexic, or cutters, or slash their wrists to get attention, or all of the above.
When a most-likely-anorexic teen girl says that piece is cool, it scares me.

Spooky and thought-provoking ... this would be a great activism piece on eating disorder awareness. I LOVE this, it is beyond words how amazing this is. The message is clear without an explanation, but your artists comment was insightful on the deep self-loathing anorexics feel. Great work.

one of my classmates had anorexia... she was stuck in a hospital for almost a year... and my cousin has also been on the brink of getting it... somehow it's just too sad
