Description
This is yet another pen and ink project. It is based on a figure I saw in a dream.I wanted to portray the image of beauty that so many women strive to become--shattered, in the mirror.
What the figure represents is the result of self-loathing and the constant torture that so many women around us endure.
It is what their bodies come to look like after their irrational physical conditioning to become what our society has come to call "Beauty", thus the title.
You'll also notice the slit wrist...this was my attempt at emphasizing the sadness and depression that accompanies a woman's inability to become an image of perfection that cannot be acheived.
I hope you guys can appreciate the meaning as well as the art.

Brilliant. I'm doing an entire year-long project on the subject, on the evolution of beauty criteria troughout time in an attempt to denounce our modern epitomes.

This is really beautiful and well-drawn. It emphasizes the point and the feeling of despair really well. It means a lot to me, because I have an eating disorder, and I know that it is as destructive as any slit wrist. I think it's so important and great that you remind people of the suffering of so many men and women with eating disorders, because that's often forgotten.
I do think, however, that it's important for people to remember that, at their core, eating disorders have very little to do with image and weight. Weight loss is merely an expression of deeper issues, and very few people have EDs because they just want to lose weight.

Their issues don't necessarily have to be their self-image, primarily.

I have a poem portraying something similar to that.
And... I LOVE this piece of work, you did a great job! This is very deep and an issue that concerns me a lot, too many people do that to themselves, too many women destroy their bodies.

I once hated something so bad that I was ready to tear it appart and throw it in the garbage, it was a short story, but then someone stopped me. And to this day I still hate it. LOL
