Description
This is yet another pen and ink project. It is based on a figure I saw in a dream.I wanted to portray the image of beauty that so many women strive to become--shattered, in the mirror.
What the figure represents is the result of self-loathing and the constant torture that so many women around us endure.
It is what their bodies come to look like after their irrational physical conditioning to become what our society has come to call "Beauty", thus the title.
You'll also notice the slit wrist...this was my attempt at emphasizing the sadness and depression that accompanies a woman's inability to become an image of perfection that cannot be acheived.
I hope you guys can appreciate the meaning as well as the art.

There are so many things, so many feelings I think of when I see this. It's not just the fact that you drew it, it's also the fact that you aren't a female and you drew it. And you understood enough to draw it in depth. Which astounds me even more.
There are so many things I could say, she seems tattered, destroyed by what 'beauty' is. Seems like the mirror had once a normal image, but it cracked, and got destroyed just like herself.
Very good, honestly, it is very impressive.

This piece is...it hits home. I've been in that woman's shoes, skin and bones. It's a terrible time and the memories will always haunt me. Beauty has become a double-edged blade, nowadays, it's very echo slowly piercing hearts and tainting the minds of everyone, partivcularly young women and girls around us. There's no need for it...As I look back, I know that the irony of it all was in the prime of my sickness, when my muscles were eaten away and left skin and bone, I was hideous.

I'm doing a school project about how girls think of themselves and how they feel they should be viewed based on the image in the media that's been drilled into their heads.
It's one of those things that's always fascinated me.
