Description
This is yet another pen and ink project. It is based on a figure I saw in a dream.I wanted to portray the image of beauty that so many women strive to become--shattered, in the mirror.
What the figure represents is the result of self-loathing and the constant torture that so many women around us endure.
It is what their bodies come to look like after their irrational physical conditioning to become what our society has come to call "Beauty", thus the title.
You'll also notice the slit wrist...this was my attempt at emphasizing the sadness and depression that accompanies a woman's inability to become an image of perfection that cannot be acheived.
I hope you guys can appreciate the meaning as well as the art.

Wow that's a pretty great piece of art indeed, good symbolisim and meaning to it, I bet that must have been an interesting dream (I like hearing the dreams of other people cause they interest me and I get very strange and vivid dreams myself), I've known of how a lot of women think with bodies basically such as that for a few years... I wish they could see what they're doing to themselves and see that their vision of beauty is truly the opposite of what they think it is... I mean there is a safe amount of being skinny or slender, but go past the boundaries of that, and it will turn them into an old woman or skeleton at the wrong time and age then they die young.

wow, this is amazing. after a little expedition into hospital myself- I met this young girl, she was 9 years of age and she was anorexic. Without a doubt the day i met her and getting to speak to her was absolutely horrifying, her views about what she sees and the people around her was incredibly heart wrenching. The idea that our unrealistic and usually unacheivable expectations of beauty is even poisoning the minds of youngest is something very frightening.
This is a, can i say beautiful? In this instance? a beautiful and sensitive way to promote the distressing issue that riddles society today. Well done!

Wow this is such a brutally fitting image to what woman endure today, as you mentionned. I actually wrote a poem similare to this then typed in "Beauty" after, because i wanted to see if i could proove my theory (that the result would be woman who resemble to flawless barbies) right. And that is exactly what showed up, and it sickened me that that was society's definition of beauty. But when i found this, i couldn't believe my eyes because this is such an accurate display of the self-conscious girl; the result of being told she doesn't fit the standards of perfection. Thank you so much for sharing this, it is going into my favorites!

I like the meaning, and you are very talanted, but this pic creeps me out!
I am struggling at the moment to become perfect, in every way - but although I know it is impossible, I still try to get there, (don't get me rong I DONT have anorexia, trust me, I am not that desperate). All I can say is that it seems like everyone around me is better that me. I blame the image on "pefection" that everyone wants now. (well not only) It has told girls that if you want to be loves - look like this, or be this thin, or have perfect teeth, or SOMTHING else! I am already stuck in it, I can not be pulled out of wanting the perfect body, or teeth, or hair, of legs, or skin, or the perfect attitude, the perfect feelings!!!
Recently I watched a movie - Phat Girlz. It is a wonderful story! The main thing is that guys love you even though youre not thin! (well in the movie - guys from Nigeria like fat (thick maddams')better than "perfect" girls. They think they are ugly if they are skinny) And all I could think was - I would not be loves even by them, couse I am not fat enough for them, and not skinny enough for my own countries "perfect" figure. So I am lost!

I love the way you portrayed the evil side of society's pressure on women to be beautiful. I also like the way that you incorperate (is that how you spell that...I'm lazy) a broken mirror within the picture so that it seems this is not the real women , but the way she sees herself.
Okay one last thing...I do realize that the hair on the girl is not the main feature because the rest of the body is what should be focused on the most, but it would look better( not that it can get much better because this is amazing) if you applied more of a texture.
BUT ANYWAY...I LOVE IT ♥
