Description This is yet another pen and ink project. It is based on a figure I saw in a dream.

I wanted to portray the image of beauty that so many women strive to become--shattered, in the mirror.
What the figure represents is the result of self-loathing and the constant torture that so many women around us endure.
It is what their bodies come to look like after their irrational physical conditioning to become what our society has come to call "Beauty", thus the title.
You'll also notice the slit wrist...this was my attempt at emphasizing the sadness and depression that accompanies a woman's inability to become an image of perfection that cannot be acheived.

I hope you guys can appreciate the meaning as well as the art.

You have done very well in this piece. You've been able to explain the meaning of each area of the art. It's sad that many women think that being in this unhealthy condition is beautiful.

That's so sad. I saw this and it reminded me of a friend of mine...I felt like crying actually. It's really too bad the way that people have become so cold and narrow-minded, to believe that a dying girl is a beautiful girl.

So true, the message. I used to worry a lot about my looks and being beautiful, but I stopped, and you can't imagine how happy I am that I did stop.
My personal view on beauty now is that any human who is healthy and happy is beautiful.
And to any girl or woman out there who is still struggling with that matter: Starving yourself and worrying is definately not healthy, and won't make you more beautiful. Strive to be happy, be healthy for the sake of being healthy, not of being skinny. Beauty comes by itself, it can't be forced

i love the message that you are portraying about what society has done to many women through the concept of "thin=beauty". the artwork is symbolic in itself and a lovely and brutal,for lack of a better word, reminder of what society has done to us as human beings. all in all well done.

This is a beautifully done horror scene. I really do appreciate this work, because I know how hard it is to break away from the impossible standard of "beauty" that society has set. I love the angles you put the woman's body at, and I like the eye in the mirror.

However, I don't exactly care for the hair. It's too... I guess I can't explain it. Ignore me!

I wish this pic could be posted somewhere on the internet or in a magazine. It has a very powerful message that I think more people should get. I don't think anyone is ugly. Every person has beauty, it's just most people are too lazy to give someone a second glance if the person is not beautiful or handsome by society's standards. If you really take the time to look at someone, there's always something beautiful.
