Description
This is yet another pen and ink project. It is based on a figure I saw in a dream.I wanted to portray the image of beauty that so many women strive to become--shattered, in the mirror.
What the figure represents is the result of self-loathing and the constant torture that so many women around us endure.
It is what their bodies come to look like after their irrational physical conditioning to become what our society has come to call "Beauty", thus the title.
You'll also notice the slit wrist...this was my attempt at emphasizing the sadness and depression that accompanies a woman's inability to become an image of perfection that cannot be acheived.
I hope you guys can appreciate the meaning as well as the art.

Whenever I see girls around me trying to cut and starve themselves thin, I always wonder what they would do if one day they woke up with nothing but bones, a hideous version of their former selves.
Would they be happy?

i love it. i love the symbolism behind it. i just created a picture similar to this but it more blames the medias picture of beauty as the reason women and anyone in general would feel like this. i love the detail in the leg bones i cant quite achieve that skill yet.

Very very emotional, the piece is grea, your use of pen is fantasic. This is suck a brilliant picture, it should be used for anti-anorexia campaigns. It really speaks to the viewer, you've done a truely excellent job.

Wonderful. It really portrays the absurdity of our image of "beauty" nowadays. This image is very powerful in many ways. The shattered mirror is my favorite part of it. The woman clearly has a distorted image of what she really looks like and the mirror makes that very clear; it's shattered nature revealing that to the viewer. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful.
I am really glad that you did this piece. More women and men need to learn to love themselves for who they are and not what they look like. The beauty that matters is not what you can see with the eyes but what you can feel with the heart.
