Description
This is yet another pen and ink project. It is based on a figure I saw in a dream.I wanted to portray the image of beauty that so many women strive to become--shattered, in the mirror.
What the figure represents is the result of self-loathing and the constant torture that so many women around us endure.
It is what their bodies come to look like after their irrational physical conditioning to become what our society has come to call "Beauty", thus the title.
You'll also notice the slit wrist...this was my attempt at emphasizing the sadness and depression that accompanies a woman's inability to become an image of perfection that cannot be acheived.
I hope you guys can appreciate the meaning as well as the art.

it's beautiful yet sad, because what you said is true. people are trying to be untra thin, because that is what the world is telling them is beautiful. this artwork carries a TON of meaning, and, though it's sad, it is beautiful.

The depth of meaning in this piece is amazing. On one level is how you've used the pen to really convey your message and express yourself especially through the downward crosshatching on the figure itself. THe background stippling and and symbolism in the mirror and blood just cements the depression, sadness, anger, frustration and hopelessness. And the real kicker, is that this is true for somebody, somewhere.

I don't think it's bad. One reason that women get to such an extreme point is because they are unable to perceive themselves as beautiful, when they were beautiful all along, at least to some people.
