[-] Self-centered [-] Envious [-] Manipulative [-] Easily distracted [-] Noncommittal
Felix prefers to view himself as more or less a ball of sunshine. He defaults to enthusiasm and positivity regarding nearly any situation or subject that allows for it, especially people, and has a penchant for throwing his whole self into things as soon as he finds any interest in them- and moving on just as fast. He has a tendency towards caring for others often more than he honestly should. These traits have gotten him (and occasionally, others) hurt more than once, but he's an intense, emotional person and has a hard time pulling back on that.
Ultimately, his greatest desire comes down to attention and affection- and he'll do almost anything for it, even if it's not quite genuine. Having learned to automatically modify his behavior to suit just about anybody that he meets, he displays a prominent habit of mirroring others and their attitudes towards him- he has not infrequently lost track of who he really is in the pursuit of others’ approval. His behavior can tend towards the manipulative and he doesn’t consider himself above lashing out if he feels he’s owed something.
If you pass the forty layers of learned behavior, Felix at core is an optimistic, very playful spirit.
History:
The first son to a high-ranking noble, Riagan Verlynn was raised a trophy child to two quite in love but heavily, heavily overbearing parents. And, to the heir's credit, he shirked none of the education he was given. He would recite politics by heart and work beautifully with the rapier, his weapon of choice. He took naturally to the image thrust upon him, earning the hearts of visitors and impressing ambassadors with his wit at such young ages. For over a decade, the Verlynn family seemed to have a near perfect heir in line to their legacy, and a littler boy and a tiny girl after him, too.
At least, that's how it looked to anyone who needed to know.
In truth, the older Riagan grew, the greater his dissatisfaction became. The life he was given wasn’t bad, it was easy, but it lacked anything that felt...real. True. Nobility in of itself was a game of chess, and while he didn’t dislike playing it, he couldn’t help the curiosity which drove him to want to leave his home. His need to explore chafes against his parents’ desire to keep him home, and he finds himself starting to slip out with a lie on his lips more and more often.
One of these nights, he finds a boy in the garden. The son of a visiting entertainer, and a brilliant lute player, at that. This one, he thinks, is what I’m looking for. With no small struggle, he convinces his parents of how elegant it would be to have a musician in the family. Thus he steals away, night after night, to learn again what honesty is, as he finds it so much easier to sing a truth than to speak it.
He’s sixteen when the magic he’d imagined before surges into reality, and he and his garden lover begin to make a plan. They’ll run, he declares, and they’ll make their living from their songs. Riagan takes what he can from his riches and the boy with him, and ‘Felix’ is born.
Felix travels for a year like this, following the love that he finds in the faces of people that see the duo’s performances. It isn’t easy, but he isn’t alone, and everything, for a while, is as it should be.
That winter, without a word left behind, the money runs out, and he wakes up alone.
He isn’t yet enough a performer on his own to make the money to survive, and he won’t go home a failure. So he falls back to old skills, old habits. It was always easy to impress people when you know how to skew the truth, it was always easy to get what you want when you can make someone believe they want it too. He throws himself through the world with whatever he can, and he finds that his magic was rarely as true as he romanticized it as.
When Felix’s heart calls him to Lumivaara next, he takes his lute on his back and wonders if he might find himself this time.
Goals:
☆ Felix wants to gather fame and adoration, in general. He wants to meet and work with as many people as possible.
☆ He’d also like to stop depending so much on the skills he learned in his childhood, but he’s never sure how to do that. They work, after all.
☆ I intend for him to grow to be more self-aware of his flaws and conscious of the things he values in his life, such as his freedom and the sanctity of others’ freedom.
☆ I’d like him to find some folks that he can depend on. Connections that he won’t throw away too fast, you know?
Trivia:
☆ He knows flower language. His favorite flowers are hyacinths and snapdragons.
☆ Doesn’t like to eat meat, but won’t turn it down.
☆ Heavily superstitious. Believes in luck, but not in karma.
☆ Gives Inspiration to you if you’re going to do something ridiculous.
